The trick is you have to be willing to take the good with the bad. If you refuse to tolerate the cheesy Siskel and Ebert cameo, you'll miss the beginning of Banner's dialogue with the Grey Hulk, which develops both characters. Refuse to tolerate the hamfisted mice, you may miss the sublime cat.

No better sign that film criticism is dying than the end of On Cinema at the Cinema.

People are always asking, "Who are the next Siskel & Ebert?" when we've had Turkington & Heidecker for 16 seasons of incredible, in-depth insight into movies and movie history.

And now it's all over forever. 🍿🍿🍿🍿🍿

This other discussion reminded me I think this is my answer to that “the movie you’ve watched incessantly” prompt, the original Three Men & a Cradle. Even Siskel & Ebert, who hated it & dismissed it as sexist (which well, you know, it is), had to admit baby Marie was ludicrously cute.
“Us, zee stylish & macho Fronchmen, look after zee baby zee most feckless of us never knew he fathaired? Mais non non non we are zee hot sexy bachelor studs!” (six months later) “WE WOULD GLADLY DIE FOR OUR PETITE MARIE”

Since it was just the 40th anniversary, here's the Siskel & Ebert review of SPIES LIKE US where Gene is thumbs up because he saw it on vacation in Honolulu and Roger is thumbs down but admits to feeling "great cinematic lust" for Vanessa Angel. youtu.be/Lf-9KBBBQf8?...

If #DaveMeltzer adopted the old Siskel and Ebert method of thumbs up or down on matches I wonder if a slight bit of the hate he gets for his ratings would dissipate.

Regarding gamers vs. game reviewers, I think it's very instructive to look at the example of Siskel & Ebert

Through the 1980s and 1990s, Siskel & Ebert hated horror movies, especially the horror icons but also a lot of the smaller independent productions

Those opinions do not hold up well today

id give it a 3/5. which is why Siskel and Ebert had a show. 🤣. Much like End of the Affair. I relate to the placing choices on fate, like Age of Innocence And the sailboat.

Spill really helped me form actual critiques on film and really broaden my horizons during my late teens in high school. You, Korey, Christ, Martin and Tony (Co-Host 3000) I all look at fondly as solid film critics. You guys were my Siskel and Ebert!

Yeah. Came in on stealthly cat feed-I accidentally just *barely* caught a Siskel & Ebert reviewing it and went to the theater.

Great example proving good thought provoking Speculative Fiction can be done on lower budget

Amusing to watch a 1994 episode of Siskel & Ebert where one of the segments is “what happened to Eddie Murphy’s career?”

32 years later and still topical.

Siskel and Ebert both gave two thumbs up to The Wiz, a movie I like a lot. If you've never seen it, give it a shot.

I've got most of my Scorsese discs out & Hugo's in the stack. I haven't seen Alice, Knocking, Bertha, Hugo, NDH, & NYNY - most of those I own or are easy to access.

I still remember that caught my eye because of Siskel & Ebert. Didn't see it until HBO. Watched it with my mom. Some awkwardness...😂
