Lol imagine being the type of person to get polarized into thinking Schumer is a genius.

Tom Emmer hasn't given 2 fucks about anything we 30% that vote against him think for years. And he's told us so.

He gets reelected by MAGA cultists with 70% margin every 2 years. This nation is polarized - it's United States in urban regions, and USSR in rural regions.

I hate the filibuster. But even reform would be preferable thank keeping it as is. In such polarized times, 60 votes is insane. How about 55? 53? Whatever. Stop making everything impossible.

Good point, the lie was revealed only 6 months after Trump downplayed the severity, hid how it transmitted over air, and polarized the country against science and taking proper precautions instead of 12 months.

That’s totally different!

its wierd how negatively polarized we are, as other countries have the same swings and its MUCH larger in other countries that have done this (Slovakia and Italy especially). i think its the combo of such little movement + we're so huge and vital makes them freak.

This is kind of the key thing: as @unavaleable.bsky.social said, it’s strange but important that we have an easier time imagining the end of American democracy than we do an end to the current very polarized electorate.

I think four years of Trump might change that… in some direction.
I think unless something happens that alters the current level of thermostatic backlash to any incumbent after some manner of time, that the US government can only assume to be stable for potentially 8 years at most.
This is basically objectively true and somehow got me called a doomer by a former mutual, lol

Yeah, I've been burned before. What they did was basically measure polarized light and back-calculate some shape that would produce that polarization pattern. Otherwise, the real image looks like a point in the sky, even through a massive telescope.

AP-NORC poll on Trump job approval:
Overall: 36-62
Democrats: 4-94
Independents: 28-71
Republicans: 74-23

Obviously his numbers with Independents are disastrous. But his numbers with Republicans are also very low in this polarized & sorted era.

Approval of how Trump is handling the federal government has dropped sharply since March.

Here’s what's going on: trib.al/xrmK95e

Since the last truly popular American president (Bill Clinton, whose approval rating was mostly in the 60s), politics has become more nationalized and polarized—meaning the party not in the White House is always furious, and its voters always take revenge.
Voters Hate Trump. Good. But Democrats Should Take No Solace in That.
It’s great that voters have turned against Trump. But they turned against Biden. They keep turning against presidents. Here’s how Democrats can deal with that.
