THE TITLE OF THE POEM: Receiver THE POEM: Elusive, it's true, but I do know it's to be found, that heartening song you really ought to hear instead of all these requiems on repeat. Somehow I've found it at the worst of times, whispering, whimpering, blistered with static, trampled by zombies with mouthfuls of shards, dazed by stations mixing disfigured strains with injured lyrics bleeding over frequencies. I swear it's out there somewhere for you. There've been days I've dialed it in by chance or by angling an antenna again and again or setting the radio closer to a window or situating it upstairs, in another room. Don't worry, I won't karaoke it! Besides, I'll be remembering it very differently: acoustical calm softly rocked by guitars with this glistening chorus of angels fading to black. It's sincere, difficult at bits, but upbeat to me. How can you recognize it through the noise or tease it out of the shifty dissonance? It could be disco, salsa, reggae, trance, baroque, the blues, free jazz, a rhapsody. How should I say which music sings to you? What stirs your legs with irrepressible dance? What hoists your spirits over the low clouds or rallies your heart against a total standstill? Whatever it is, I hope you'll soon tune into it. .THE END OF THE POEM. Poem by Robert J. i still prefer my type treatment... that change was a hard swallow, second only to having to remove song lyrics as poem titles or epigraphs because the press was strick with copyright issues. song lyrics as poem titles have been bread & butter to poets for decades!!

Sent a poem out the door today. I find when I'm writing poetry or lyrics, the best way to get me past the sticky bits is to hand-write each line until it "clicks" in my brain.

Nah, music always catches me up on art. I look at pictures or paintings, I usually think of songs. I read a poem, I think of song lyrics.

I like to think about how just like there's light you can't see and sounds you can't hear that the effects of music cast a wider net than just the sound of it.

Like “A Rock of Gibraltar” Like “A Rock of Gibraltar” I shall not be moved”— I learned stillness of pressure how weight clarifies intention how standing is an act of refusal. Storms arrive in paper and poem hands insisting I bend for convenience. I let them exhaust themselves on my outlines and lyrics— mistaking patience for permission. I do not advance. I do not retreat. Time edits moments around me. What remains; not pride but placement— to stay where truth contains me. Like “A Rock of Gibraltar” I shall not be moved”— from stubbornness, nor calibration a body set in erosion learns limits where endurance speaks language. They test me with soliloquy dressed as urgency— call: compromise, call: survival. I answer with silence that collapses posture and refuses translation. I am not waiting for permission or rescue. I am occupying my own gravity. History leans, then recalculates— finding me exactly where I said I would be.

The left is the poem given to me by the senior on my bus who stared at me. The right is the song lyrics my groomer wrote... I had turned it in as part of a homework assignment and even explained who he was but the teacher didn't say shit. 😬
Biting our lips (though it may be subtle), We permit ourselves glimpses of time. Our eyes sinning, repetitious stare-downs, This is the one pair of confidence I forgot to put on. Words flying from these eyes like Needles or knives, from our limelight Sunlight filtering on your headlight Hands spread over the leather And teeth bore in a laugh. My mind wanders to what's underneath, As astonishing as that may be, And you seem to be shying away (In that not-so-shy why), like a woman Who knows what she wants. I dream of women like you. A few words really go a long way And if I could just hold those hands on those leather seats I know I could be so content with the absence Of any consensual relationship. It was originally written for a song that we will soon record. It means so much to me, not just because he wrote it, but because of the message it holds. The poem says that he will wait for that girl that God gives to him, not a girl that he seeks out to find. And no matter who that girl is, because God [chose] her, he will be her farm-boy. To others, this poem should remind people not to go seeking love, but letting it fall into place. That is what it always reminds me."

Haha, my secret is that if I'm really stuck, I use real songs as a starting point for lyrics, rhyme schemes, rhythm, or whatever else! I also don't sing it, so it's really more like writing a poem.

Before the first chapter, Garden of Order: Legends begins with the lyrics to a song/poem. I’d rarely written a poem or song before (there’s a brief snippet in Shadow Among The Stars), but I’d re-read Lord of the Rings to get into the right headspace and knew I had to try my hand at it.🧵
No seas of glass, nor sparkling vales, Hillocks rolling or cliffsides pale, Gret Ahren-Jakta when they woke; Alone they endless silence broke. Their breath bestirred the prime expanse, From nothingness rose Four in dance: Sarden; Blue as ice and deep, two souls in one, waves they reap. Laradana; Bronze their frame, Whims on wind doth they proclaim. Xjarmi; Dark with hair alight, Fierce her flames, her eyes shine bright. Ba’Ihar; Lover in gold, Bloom and birth from her unfold. OK. I'd no intention of attempting this when I posted that Delmore Schwartz's Wikipedia entry could be edited into a poem...

...but I got curious and gave it a shot, for what it's worth.

I just hope I haven't invented a genre we'll all soon regret...

This poem is four pages with phrases spaced out on the page with lots of white space, so I'm not sure how it will work this way. Most periods have been removed, too.
