The following is the text of the graphic: I think that one of the reasons why the dehumanizing racist video that Trump shared last night is so significant is that the dehumanization of Black people in America was so often accompanied by their murder. Two Black men were lynched in Evansville in 1865 in response to the alleged rape by two Black men of a white woman named Mrs. Dullinger. According to the first local newspaper account, "the whole neighborhood was quickly aroused and turned out in search of the fiends." Two Black men--one named Joe Goins, and the other unnamed--were arrested and held in the city jail. "This revolting outrage," concluded the article, "has created much feeling in the city, and the infamous and brutish wretches will no doubt receive, as they deserve, the severest punishment of the law." The law, of course, was not to be allowed to run its course as the very next day the same paper reported, "The two negro brutes, who so fiendishly maltreated a white woman on Sunday fearfully expiated their crime yesterday afternoon... they were soon dragged forth into the street, beaten down with clubs and shot. After they were dead, they were taken up and hanged to a lamp post on the corner of the street, where they were [still] hanging at a late hour in the evening." The dehumanization in the language--"fiends," "fiendishly," "brutish," "brutes"--is crystal clear, and was typical of press accounts of lynchings in the United States Black lynching victims. It was made clear, were nothing more than animals; indeed an account of the Evansville lynching on the front page of the Chicago Tribune literally called the victims "inhuman scoundrels." In the context of race relations in the United States, words have always had consequences. Trump, a disgusting old racist, who leads one of the most disgustingly racist administrations in American history, knows exactly what he was doing. I followed all this with curiosity and trepidation through my halting attempts to read Davar le Yeladim, the weekly children’s edition of the Labour Zionist newspaper Davar. We children felt an additional connection with what was going on. One of our Dror housemates, a boy named Giora Ros, had left the year before when his father took a job in Jerusalem. As the battle for the city raged through the end of 1947 and into 1948, its besieged Jewish residents fought for their lives. We sent our friend packages of clothing and food, which we saved up by eating only half of an egg at breakfast and smaller portions at dinner. The mood darkened further at the end of January 1948, four months before the British departed. A cluster of settlements known as Gush Etzion, south of Jerusalem near the hills of Bethlehem, also came under siege. Around midnight on January 15, a unit of Haganah youngsters set off on foot to try to break through. They became known as “The 35”. Marching through the night from Jerusalem, they had made it only within a couple of miles of Gush Etzion when they were surrounded and attacked by local Arabs. This is why whole dying newspaper groups change hands for less than the cost of a single print newspaper. The trusted branding is their only asset, and the spin doctors are willing to pay out the debts in order to procure a known and trusted brand.

It’s why she froze like a caribou in headlights when Katie Couric asked her to name a newspaper she read. She was terrified of screwing up.

Brilliant work by the cartoonist, Guffo.
A large stuffed folder of files with the title “Epstein” is seen with what looks, at first glance, like a red page marker sticking out of the bottom. On closer inspection it is the bottom of a Trump red neck tie. French newspapers once again showing the kind of basic journalistic integrity lacking from most US national newspapers - whose collective negligence has helped ensure a man implicated in the world’s most notorious sex trafficking ring gets to remain President. That the orange pedo felon remains in office is a plague on all their houses. Cunts, one and all.

If any other sitting president had this clear cognitive decline (if we are to believe this newspaper) I feel more people would have tossed him out. 25th amendment or what it was.

Heck this is the same thing that made Biden such a bad choice. Trump is as old as Clinton and Bush Jr.

Square bound books from the 50's like this often are shredded (by readers, I believe!). This was nice enough I wanted to slab it. Sorry for the glare, scanning these thick slabs of square-bound books always results in glare. This is the rear of the book, and it's so pretty I scanned it for #TopShelfFriday! Again, apologies for the glare. This contemporary 1959 newspaper article was clipped out and in the back of the book, I didn't see it when I sent for slabbing. CBCS returned it to me (which I thought was awesome). The back side of this article has an article about 50's kids sledding in the snow but is incomplete.

In 1853, Mary Ann launched The Provincial Freeman, Canada's first antislavery newspaper. She was the first Black woman newspaper editor in North America. She personally smuggled copies of the paper across the border into the U.S. so that her message could reach as many Americans as possible. Mary Ann Shadd was the first of 13 children born into a prominent abolitionist family in Delaware on 9 October 1823. Her father, Abraham Doras Shadd, was a shoemaker in Wilmington, Delaware, and a leader among Delaware’s free Black community. Her mother was Harriet Parnell from North Carolina. Their home was a stop on the Underground Railroad that assisted freedom seekers out of Maryland and Delaware into the Free State of Pennsylvania and beyond.

Unfortunately, neither Times nor Post, nor damn near any other in this sewer of a country has been a legitimate newspaper for a long time.
Probably better at this point we just call them out as the propaganda rags they are.
