Supervisor of San Francisco. District 5.
We’re making progress in the Fillmore. Today, the city received an application to create 1,800 homes and a grocery store on the former Safeway site — an important first step in the right direction.

Today we celebrated the life of Marlena - a beloved queer community leader, performer, and the 25th Empress of the San Francisco Imperial Court.

They owned and operated Marlena's bar in Hayes Valley and passed away last month. But their legacy lives on in the neighborhood.

We hosted our monthly coffee chat today in the Fillmore, meeting residents, small business owners, and workers in the neighborhood.

We discussed a range of concerns from noise pollution to window replacement laws, small business permitting to supporting our seniors amidst the federal shutdown.

The site of 111 Taylor was originally the site of the Trans resistance movement.

Now its a halfway house that members of the community have expressed deep concerns about health, safety and civil rights. So we launched a hearing to call the operator - Geo Group - before the Board of Supervisors.

In San Francisco, we believe in justice —this was an important first step towards accountability and fairness.

So great to meet residents in Lower Haight to discuss the Family Zoning Ordinance today.

In Lower Haight, base heights allowed for development are remaining the same, while higher heights already permitted by the State will be allowed in exchange for additional funding for affordable housing.

Democrats win when they focus on issues that matter to people: Housing affordability, food insecurity, and safe streets.

People want solutions but the establishment isn't delivering.

The new wave of Democrats is bringing back hope and I’m excited to be a part of it.

Proposition 50 passes. By a landslide.

And in San Francisco, we led the way.

Ahead of Veterans’ Day, today we honored Mr. Douglas Jenkins, a proud Veteran and a lifelong advocate whose service has strengthened not only our country but the very heart of the Fillmore and neighborhoods across the city for over forty years.

Our Sanctuary City Ordinance has led the way for decades and today I Introduced legislation to make it abundantly clear: our Sanctuary protections apply to any federal agency doing civil immigration enforcement.

I didn’t get a tour of ICE HQ but what I what I witnessed was disturbing.

Immigrants are caught in a Catch 22: they can show up to court and risk being detained and deported for following the law, or not show up, risking an “absentia” order, and face deportation anyway.

Like I said this weekend, we can't lose our spirit in San Francisco — we have to celebrate joy.

Thank you again to all who joined this weekend’s Día de Muertos celebration and special thanks to the organizers who made it possible!

Joy is how we take back our streets. And today we brought thousands of San Franciscans out to commemorate Dia De Los Muertos in the heart of the Tenderloin.

Thank you to NOPNA for bringing the community, kiddos, and puppies together for another amazing event.

Fun, spooky, and full of creativity! 🎃 That’s how we’d describe this year’s Tenderloin Community Elementary School Halloween Parade!

Students showed off costumes that were to die for 👻 Can’t wait for next year!

Our streets are getting safer! This morning, I had the honor of cutting the ribbon on a new Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacon (RRFB) at the Fulton St. and Clayton St. intersection as part of a citywide effort led by SFMTA and funded by SFCTA to install these beacons across the city.

Today I joined Compass Family Services for a safety walk that started in the TL and ended at a Halloween pumpkin patch for children right here in front of City Hall!

All children deserve to have a fun and safe childhood. Thank you to everyone who brought this festive slice of joy to our community!

Last week's news left many of our neighbors feeling anxious and uncertain about what comes next. But San Francisco has always been a place of belonging for all, a place where everyone deserves to feel safe.
