I'm looking at some Arabidopsis scRNA-seq data and found that the MEP pathway is expressed in the mesophyll & bundle sheath. In various species that produce monoterpene indole alkaloids (e.g., Catharanthus), the MEP pathway is restricted to a rare cell type. Not sure what this means. #PlantScience

Cuminaldehyde (a major volatile of cumin seeds) and eugenol (a major volatile of clove) might look similar structurally, but they have very different biosynthetic origins. One is (proposed to be) a monoterpene, while the other is a phenylpropanoid. Convergent evolution of fragrance, I guess.
