The critically endangered #FlapperSkate is making a comeback in and around the #LochSunart and Sound of Jura Marine Protected Area 🌊🐟 after commercial fishing of the species was banned in 2009 🎣. About half of fishers across Scotland 🏴 say they are now seeing flapper skates almost every day 👀.

The critically endangered #FlapperSkate is making a comeback in and around the #LochSunart and Sound of Jura Marine Protected Area 🌊🐟 after commercial fishing of the species was banned in 2009 🎣. About half of fishers across Scotland 🏴 say they are now seeing flapper skates almost every day 👀.

Unfortunately, you only have to look at the recent fuss about the South Coast Marine Protected Area to get the vibes coming from the administration in St. John's. Even the thought of studying anything related to conservation/environment gets ripped off the table w/o explanation.

I'm not sure what they mean by 'standing up for coastal communities' when those very coastal communities were interested in exploring the idea of a marine protected area. The gov pulled out of a process to study the idea. That's fishy for sure.
