Region is far easier to understand when you have a colour scale for a DEM that is designed to pick out geomorphology.
This is not the Arctic DEM, rather it's the the older MapZen DEM XYZ layer hosted by Amazon link:https://s3.amazonaws.com/elevation-tiles-prod/terrarium/{z}/{x}/{y}.png

Not in many years. Mapzen's Eraser Map was pretty competitive in 2017, but of course didn't survive the Mapzen shutdown.
I still wonder what sort of business/non-profit structure it would take to keep something like that going again.

Making progress on a tool to download Mapzen heightmap tiles, merge them and export for various #VFX and #gamedev tools.
Inspired by manticorp.github.io/unrealheight... but with more customisation, output options and can export much larger geographic areas at higher res.

A quick rendering of the Pacific Ocean, aka Oceania, one of my favorite places. Although to be fair, I have only visited Hawaii, Samoa and Micronesia.
Using #QGIS, I simply styled the included MapZen Global Terrain and used the Globe Builder plugin.
