It’s been almost a year of this, and quite frankly I’m done with going back and forth with the main people at WaterWolf who won’t stop until I give them the satisfaction of seeing me quit altogether. So I’m settling my debt with this, hopefully then people can understand why I’ve been so damn negative all year. Any good feelings I’ve had throughout 2025 have mostly disappeared as they were experienced alongside a group of people so toxic and self-conceited that it occupied the space where any lick of “positivity” could exist. It’s already been a rough year - My best friend died and I’ll never get an answer how it happened, I’ve been losing sleep due to college and ever since January, I’ve been the subject of bullying and constant snarking behind my back. It's not that dramatic of a story and it comes down to something simple. Shitty people suck and when they end up being "successful" or a big enough nuisance to bully you further, people are afraid to blow the “public callout” whistle. I think that it's only fair that I say my peace before I can finally move on from this mess. I met these people way before they became "big" or well known back in 2022. We were equals/"friends" at the time and I was spreading their venue name like wildfire in good faith. From the beginning, their positivity advocacy was made obvious (this was the start of their whole holier-than-thou era). The blows started small, the first instance happening between an altercation with two users back in 2023 and apologizing on "their" behalf when really I was the one who forced him to apologize, and to this day I still have the records of doing so. Eventually being annoyed enough to the point where I had made it public that I would not perform or defend them any further, only to find out that they would attempt to tell the people they still had under their wing at the time to not do any A/V work for me because I was younger than them and didn't know "better". I encouraged that group to cut the shit and to leave me alone, and for a while it went dead silent, thinking that would be the end. I wanted them to do better and I hoped nothing but the best, but more people I knew jumped ship and eventually their original "founder" left and is currently AWOL, terrified of the furry fandom thanks to them. But in the name of "positivity", "innovation" and "creation", that became their driving force of hate and kicked me out the second I went out of line. I guess in the end I didn’t even have to do anything to let others know they were bad people, because it only led up to the main ringleader’s past being discovered and more ex-staff of his testified to me personally about their abuse. Sort of contradicted the whole "be kind" motto they blab about nonstop. For years, I thought it was me that was the problem, but after speaking with other DJs, club owners, coordinators, ex-staff and other venue-goers, even people who are still on their team... the sentiment between us all was shared. They truly are the worst group of people imaginable.

And I'm more confident than ever having consumed: 3 berocca, some spinach, 4 smoothies, 4 small fish and a dozen Sea Dog Pills (see the entry on Hong Kong) in the last week. Full of both life and self-belief, I've decided to look ahead to how life will be different when I eventually claim the title. But, because I can't actually look ahead because it hasn't happened, I'm going to do that by looking backwards. I'm going to have a look at how life was different 100 years ago to give us some idea of what it might be like 100 years hence. What follows is a list of 32 things that have been invented in the last 100 years (up until my birthday, 10th September 1978). This might be less of a blog and more a load of information copied and pasted from Wikipedia but it should hopefully make you think, 'wow, if the equivalent of all that stuff gets invented in the next century, won't it be amazing!' That's one reason why I want to be alive at the age of 132. I want to see what we come up with. I mean, look at this lot:

I've shared my thoughts on this before both on bsky and squidboard's suggestion thread. Gonna go into why it won't happen and what we can do + alt text
I'll be upfront: Squidboards, nor any forum, will become a major discussion platform in the modern day. Bsky isn't going to go "belly up"; people were saying the same thing about tumblr after the pr*n ban, and the nazi site is still running with a good chunk of our community. Hell, deviantart is still running and it's an enshittified AI slopfest. That's not to say a forum can't be a hub for competitive discussion in the modern day, which we see in smogon for example. The FRAR Forums (homestuck) also opened their beta not long ago, and while active by forum standards, it's not a replacement for social media. As of writing, the last post was 5 hours ago. Quick, 300-characters-per-post communication has ruined people's patience for slower, long-form conversation. If Squidboards wants to grow and retain its audience, especially for a competitive base, it needs fundamental restructuring. Squidboards is essentially a fork of the Smashboards and hasn't seen active development in years. I'm aware of its ownership transferring at some point in its history, and the admin admits the forum has been in a decline. My original criticism posted on the site was about its UI's lack of accessibility. There are only two themes with no light mode options, and the font + general layout make it unpleasant to navigate. I won't get into that too much because it's irrelevant to my main point here: Squidboards isn't a competitive space. Its current userbase from what I've gathered is mostly young, casual players keeping it alive. There's no incentive for comp players to use it for discussion besides the Stronghold, bless them, hosting and advertising their articles there. The unfortunate thing is that they don't get *engagement* from curious casuals or comp players. The forums also lack advertising, as mentioned by the aforementioned admin and Alphine's post, which I've responded to with similar thoughts here. The Squidboards needs a coordinated advertisement effort with incentives for engagement, expanded staff, and modern features if they want to grow. Users still have to upload images to a thread to use them on your profile. They're in desperate need of an overhaul, which is delicate work for volunteers when the forum is 10 years old. So what can we do? I think the Squidboards should be preserved, but I don't think it should be used for competitive discussion. 90% of it is casuals as young as 14-17 sharing their art, having general conversation, and while they engage in conversations about the meta and specific weapons, there's nothing about tournaments or teams and strategy. If we want to create a space by competitive players for competitive players, we need to create our own. I highly suggest starting on proboards, a free hosting site that's been around for 25 years. The most active forum I've seen hosted on there (personally) is the Neopian Times Writer's Forum. It's a niche yet steady discussion forum that's been around since 2010, and I think we can take inspiration from it. They also have a badge system, much like sendou. Off the top of my head, an individual tournament like FTIU could create a forum to post their winner cards and highlight hype moments from their streams. Low Ink could recap the Popcast's predictions and let users engage in their own, generating hype, and likewise share hype moments from their streams day one and two. This requires a lot more work from organizations, but hopefully if we centralize the comp community in an active, dedicated space, there'll be more people willing to engage. As a low level player, I have no clue what's going on at mid to top level, and I can tell you from talking with my coaches + friends above me, it's the same way 'round. I'll say, "hey, x team is in this, that's pretty scary!" and I'll get a "who?". Our community is splintered. Imagine a place where players of all skill level can engage, share replay codes and vods, and give advice. Imagine a place where two organizations can announce a fun collaboration event. Imagine a place where discussion is accessible to all, without having to make an account or trawl through social media. It won't be easy, but with a team we can make this. For anyone who feels inspired, I'm willing to pitch in creatively with assets, branding, advertising/social media management, and basic frontend development. Considering I spent almost 2 hours writing this, you could say I'm passionate. All it takes is one step, starting small yet determined. Thanks for reading lmao

The only way I see this shutdown ending is if Dems cave. Hopefully they won't play Charlie Brown to the GOP's Lucy this time. The GOP will not reinstate health-care so give up on that one and don't agree to a verbal promise. We may all be homeless and broke but I'll take that over a theocracy.

The old man crossed his arms and tapped his foot “Go on.” “Maybe you're putting too much pressure on the coolant alone. Maybe putting more emphasis on some kind of exhaust for the heat, as well as reinforcing the plating of the Igniter with a thicker metal.” It was a shot in the dark at best, but the heat has to go somewhere. I just had to hope that my rambling sparked some kind of idea into him. The old man scratched his chin in thought. “Hm…” Yeah, this was probably a bad idea. I regretted mentally. I mean, surely he would've thought of an exhaust by now. “You know…” The old man said slowly. “You might just be on to something.” “Really?” I asked, a tad astonished. The old man nodded. “It is highly possible that this explosion was caused by the Igniter being made too cheaply.” He sighed. “Though making them more expensive would make them harder to present, hopefully the results would make that worth it.” “We made it this far with that kind of hope, and if I know anything about what you can do, the final result will be the most impressive thing they've seen in a while.” I said to stroke his ego. The old man simply chuckled “I can see your game, you know. You will be testing all the prototypes, not me.” “I wouldn't dream of shrugging it off now.” I lied. “Good.” The old man laughed. “Then let's get started.” Trial and error. This is the basis of experimentation. However that doesn't make it any less annoying when the fourth sword in a row either doesn't do anything, or literally blows up in your face. I had kept quiet all this time, but this was thinning my patience. “This isn't working.” I said, tossing the melted hilt of the sword aside. “There has to be something missing." “Patience, Talon.” The old man warned. “Patience is what you're missing." “You know what I mean, old man.” I snapped. “Well, of the four attempts, two failed to Ignite, and two exploded.” The old man documented. “Leave too much open space in the exhaust, and the Igniter doesn't power anything. Too little room and the container doesn't hold out.” “Are you telling me to keep going until we find the perfect balance?” I said dreadfully. “Even if there was a perfect balance.” The old man corrected. “There would be no guarantee that the same balance could be reproduced with other sizes of swords, let alone different types of weapons.” The old man walked over to the blueprints and crumpled them up, tossing them into the nearby trash can. “We need to start over.” He said, a hitch of annoyance in his voice. “Seriously?” I asked, the annoyance rising in my voice as well. “Yes, our methodology is wrong.” He claimed. “Instead of simply making a better Igniter, we need to make Igniters that work in tandem with the weapon it is installed into.” “We need to design a new Igniter for every different weapon?” I asked. The old man nodded “Exactly.” “That's an incredibly hard sell.” I warned. “How are you going to make it worth it?” “If we do it correctly.” He said, undeterred. “Then the power of each weapon will rise dramatically. However, we will have to design a whole new sword with this in mind, rather than just implanting an Igniter into spare practice swords.” “Right.” I said. “Just let me know when you need me to swing it.” “Not so fast.” He retorted. “This is going to require extra materials.” “Fine.” I sighed. “Just give me the shopping list…” With a list of materials the old man needed in hand, I made my way to the industrial district. He asked for a lot of materials, and none of it was cheap. Luckily I can just bill him for some of the more expensive stuff, so it isn't all coming out of my pocket. After that was the building of the new sword. I wasn't even free during that though, because the old man needed me to make more training dummies. Since the goal was to use the new Igniter multiple times in rapid succession, having multiple dummies would be ideal. By the time I finished setting everything up with four dummies, the old man was already done with the next prototype. “It's a pretty basic function.” The old man explained. “When the Igniter is activated, the sword should be engulfed in flame.” “And pretty flashy for a prototype.” I replied “could’ve settled for just heating the blade.” “This way, it will be obvious when the Igniter is on, and exactly when it turns off.” He pointed out. I reply with a shrug. “Fair enough.” I take hold of the blade, and approach the dummies. I give it a few test swings, the blade only scratching the surface of the dummy. Good. I thought. Won't have any false positives. I ready my stance and turn on the Igniter. Sure enough, the entire blade is coated in flame. With one swing, I cut the dummy in half. Both halves are now on fire, and the blade isn't. Though, I notice lingering heat on said blade, so I take a swing at the next dummy. The second dummy gets a large tear in it. “Not enough to snuff their light.” I thought out loud. “But that could definitely do some damage. Now, for the real test.” Before the blade fully cools, I use the Igniter again. It works. The blade is once again lit ablaze, and I swing at the third dummy. With slightly more resistance than the first, it also gets cut in half, both halves lit on fire. I hold out the sword, the heat on the blade distorting the air around it. The old man walks out, clapping. “Looks good to me. Any more complaints?” “Not really.” I report. “It's not too noteworthy, but I noticed that the second activation was slightly weaker. Shouldn't be too much of a problem though, it was still enough to hypothetically snuff a light.” “Very good.” The old man says with a smile. “Then let's get to work.”

I accidentally wrote a small resin encasement story with me and @shananeco.bsky.social. I hope you all enjoy it!
Experiment 104 log. Day 5 - Entry 1: It has been two days since the expected denaturing should begin, and the resin looks like its holding. This is mildly concerning due to the human life we encased. If we cannot free Shana within the next 5 hours, I fear that we may have to give up on her... Hoping to bring good news next time i write. Experiment 104 log. Day 7 - Entry 1: Turns out we had a mannequin based off Shana and put that in the resin. Shana was found an hour ago, walking around the lab. The higher ups have requested her help again, this time we have checked, and we should be using the right type of resin. The higher ups also want me to get involved due to my unique ability to write logs while inside, so they ae preparing a tub for me and Shana as we speak. They want me and Shana to hug, I'm not sure why, but I will indulge them. I must end this log here. Here's hoping for good results! Experiment 104 log. Day 7 - Entry 2: I'm now within the tub, Shana looks scared. I'm telling her that everything will be ok, but I'm not sure if I fully believe that myself. They started the pour moments ago, so it's too late to ask for this to be put on hold. Getting into their requested position wasn't hard. Shana is incredible to hug! Soft and full of life, unlike the mannequins that people use to curb their loneliness. Honestly, even if we ended up sealed into this hug forever. I do not think I could complain. Experiment 104 log. Day 7 - Entry 3: The pour is complete and set. The higher ups decided they wanted me and Shana to kiss, but I managed to push back and stop that. We now stand still, frozen into the warmest of embraces. I like hugs, and it seems that for the next 3 days, this incredible hug will be my life. That's all for today. Experiment 104 log. Day 8 - Entry 1: Time sure passes quickly, I had intended to write this log earlier, but its already nearly midnight. Hell, you could probably lose yourself in the permanent stuff and skip weeks at a time. That does mean that there's only another day or so before the resin denatures and we can be freed. Day 12 - Entry 1: There must be something wrong with my NIC's timekeeping ability. According to the date I'm seeing, this should be day 12. Surely that can’t be, we checked the resin barrels for signs of tampering when we received them, there is no way that these could have been the permanent stuff... Unless... There is no way to know for sure, but I will make a request for testing on the contents of the barrels. That should hopefully tell us what exactly we are in. I will await results. Experiment 104 log. Day 27 - Entry 1: The lights have been off in the lab for a while. I haven't seen anyone walking around, all I can feel is the slight twitches from Shana and the pressing tightness of the resin. Surely there is no way they forget about us, right? Another notable fact is the fact that the clock shows this as day 20 of our freeze. We should be dead, out of food and water. Something is keeping us alive, and I'm not sure what... Experiment 104 log. Day 757 - Entry 1: It has been two years since the last log. We are both somehow alive. Our block has ended up as a display piece for a wealthy individual, who had the excess cut off so its now just a perfect cube with me and Shana in the middle, hugging and smiling our permanent smiles. I saw a newspaper article on a nearby table. The lab had been shut down due to malpractice. This means that nobody is left that even remembers that there are real people inside this resin. Most would think we are merely models, cast to look pretty.

On one hand, this is absolutely the “give yourself the advice you need to hear and hope some of it is relevant to a stranger” pastoral care gambit, but on the other hand, I’ve had almost this exact conversation with someone as we IDed her teenage son who was DOA from suicide.
When I spoke again, I didn’t bother with any of the normal reassurances or spiritual platitudes. Instead, I said, honestly, “I don’t know if everything will be OK. It may not be. You may think you were at the lowest point now and then look up one day and see that it’s gotten so much worse.” I looked down at my hands, the hands that had pulled my older sister from a rope after she hung herself in my parents garage “you may not ever be able to get out of bed in the morning with that security. That moment of OK may never come. “What? Christ, Iz, you know that not all of them are shit.” Ed scoffed and gave his head a rough shake. “I needed a friend. You used to be a friend before you got so obsessed with all of this.” “All of this?! You mean an empire!” Izzy stalked around the desk with a growl. “Who do you think has been keeping all of this running? Who makes sure that we hit deadlines? Who arranges for magazine interviews, shows, partnerships?! Who has been slaving away while you went running off with an alpha who fucking works for you?!” “Sounds stressful, Izzy.” Ed mock crooned and that got him a louder snarl. “We’ve had these talks. I’ve been done with this for a while and you won’t fuckin’ listen! How many ways do I have to tell you that I’m fed up?!” He drew in a steadying breath and braced himself. “I’m done. I can’t do this shit anymore, it’s time for Blackbeard to die and Edward Teach to fuckin’ live. I’ve proven myself, so we’re going to work out a plan to reveal who Blackbeard really is.” He said the last in a rush before he could rethink it. Because Ed wanted that. He was tired of someone taking credit for his designs. Sure, Blackbeard was his creation, but it still felt like a stranger was taking his hard work and slapping their own label on it. It wasn’t that he wanted to be famous, he just wanted to stand behind his own designs again, not just parade around like a pretender. Izzy fixed him with a look and blew out a breath, exhaustion seemed to fill his face and Ed might have felt sorry for him except Izzy never gave a damn when Ed was exhausted. No, Ed got a fucking collar slapped around his neck and dragged out to do his little show with a fake beard and drenched in fake alpha scent. “I get it.” The omega grunted and Ed blinked in shock. “You didn’t think it would last this long. We all figured someone would see through the act.” “Yeah, so why keep it going.” He said slowly, hopefully. “Because, Edward, you have people that depend on you. Not just me, and those that know, but everyone right on down to the janitor in this place.” Izzy leaned back onto the desk and crossed his arms. “You know if you stepped out now that they’d have a field day with the press.” “Yeah, but not all bad.” He shifted uneasily. “I mean, think of it, an omega that fuckin’ fooled all of them for decades. It’s a good story.” “You think they’d run a good story about it?” Izzy let out a rough laugh. “Don’t be an idiot, Edward. How many alphas have worked for the Queen Anne?” Ed blinked slowly and frowned. He had been careful to hire alphas as well as omegas. In truth, he tried to hire based on talent not presentation, that’s why the designs that came out under the Queen Anne label were so diverse. “Fair few.” He grunted finally. “How many do you think will claim you’ve stolen their designs?” Izzy pointed out with narrowed eyes. “Fuck off!” Ed scoffed. “Most of them were pups when I first began designing!” “Doesn’t fuckin’ matter, anyone you worked with would step forward and make the same damn claim.” Izzy pushed. “Your label would crumble, your reputation. You’d be another fuckin’ omega ridin’ the coattails of the alphas.” Ed felt the heat rush to his face and he opened his mouth to deny it, but then he snapped it shut. He knew better. He knew when he’d started out that half his designs would get past the first few levels alright, but the moment they found out his secondary gender it was all dismissed. And why? Because omegas couldn’t design like that, couldn’t do more than make a few pretty fucking skirts, not high fashion. He let out a low growl and watched Izzy give a jerky nod. “Yeah, you see the problem. You wanna design as Ed, fine, maybe we’ll figure some shit out. But you can’t let anyone know that Blackbeard’s you.” The other omega leaned forward. “You will burn this place down around you if you do and don’t pretend you don’t know that.” “They might like it.” Ed said finally, but the words felt like whistling in the dark. “Might figure out it’s about damn time to stop shitting on us.” “Yeah, Edward.” Izzy scoffed and pushed away from the desk. “Sure, they’ll just ignore centuries of bullshit because you come out of the closet.” The other omega walked across the room with a glance back at him. “Remember, it’s not your future you’re fucking up. It’s mine, Fangs, Ivans, the whole damn place, including whatever the fuck is going on with that alpha.” Ed glared after Izzy, feeling the twist of cold anger building in him before jerking his eyes towards his monitor. He let out a short huff and jerked the mouse to wake it up while he rolled the conversation over in his head. He couldn’t say Izzy was wrong. He knew the chances of revealing himself as the persona Blackbeard were slim, but that didn’t mean that was his only way out. Just the one that offered him some semblance of recognition for what he’d done and designed. There’s always an escape. And maybe it’ll be nice to just be Ed. I don’t need Blackbeard, never did really. He told himself, trying not to dwell on what would happen to the Queen Anne label if he killed off that persona. Fuck. This is fine. It’ll be fine.

Out of habit, Ed almost bites back a mewl of pleasure, but no, he trusts Stede. Stede can see how much Ed wants this and he won’t ridicule him or turn away. Ed’s allowed to want this, to give up control a bit to someone he trusts implicitly. His co-captain. His equal. Not even that, they’re just Ed and Stede here. So Ed lets his little cries come as they will as Stede, oh so gently and carefully, works his finger in to the first knuckle and pauses.. It will help Stede, who’s biting his lip from nerves, to know he’s doing it right. “So good,” Ed tells him. He chases a little movement with his hips, trying to show Stede what he likes. “Please, baby, been dreaming of this.” Stede’s gaze, which has been steadily on his finger disappearing into Ed’s hole, snaps up. “You have?” Here in bed, naked, with Stede knuckle deep, Ed’s going to be as honest as he can be. “Ever since that first day, yeah. Watched your fingers doing up the cravat. Wanted them in me.” Stede makes a disbelieving little huffing noise, but he starts moving his finger, slowly, in a circle. “This is what the pamphlet advised—is it right?” Ed doesn’t want him all in his head. “Whatever feels good to both of us is right, no matter what the pamphlet says. But this is good.” He moans appreciatively for emphasis, enjoying the stretch that even just one of Stede’s fingers provides. No one but Ed himself has done this for him for so long—no one to trust when he’s captain, and he’d about given up on orgasms he didn’t give himself anyway.

I'm trying to paint loosely. It's in my nature to render things to death. I'm a detail-oriented perfectionist. I can easily paint every single hair on a cat. But I feel my work loses something when I do this. It becomes more wooden. And any anatomy/composition/value/symmetry flaws in the painting become glaringly obvious. On the flip side, when I paint loose (with big expressive brushstrokes, drips, splatters, et cetera), my work comes alive. I always end up loving the final product. And I always wind up having so much fun when I paint loose versus the pure agony I feel when I paint too tight. So, whenever I sit down in front of a blank canvas, I take a deep breath. I think of Yennefer in that battle. I tell myself, "Let my chaos explode." Of course, most of the time I will wind up over-rendering anyway. But I will continue to fight my controlling nature. I won't give up on painting the kind of paintings I want to paint. Hopefully, in time, letting my chaos explode won't be so hard.

Lots to start yet, but the weather is vastly better than last year's killing damp. Hopefully I can finish Dinosaur Heaven, if this fails so be it, I tried, but I won't give up wholly, I'll just put it on the back burner.
