Going to Eyam today!

First time I’ve been since going on a primary school trip - coz’ going to a “plague village” is standard… 😅

I’ve visited Chatsworh twice, in two different seasons. You won’t regret it. While in the area, you can also visit the “plague village” of Eyam. Beautiful vistas everywhere. #Derbyshire

The road down from Eyam to the Stoney Middleton road in The Peak District is haunted by a cycling policeman with a carbide lamp on his bike.

In 2017 I went up to Derbyshire for a birthday break. On a walk around the plague village of Eyam I met this handsome fellow. It was a very beautiful and atmospheric place! 🐴

And later she said something that stuck hard in my mind
'We are their Capel Celyn, they gotta keep their slippers dry,
To empathise with Tory's to invite upon disease,
A safer bet's to pack your bags, go holiday in Eyam'

On a bus passing through Eyam made famous by plague. No-one appears to be suffering from plague as far as I can see. I always want to shout "Bring Out Your Dead!' through the bus window but have resisted thus far.

There is a prominent communications aerial of some kind (not sure of it is radio or TV) near the Sir William Hill trig point on Eyam Moor. This is close to the Wet Withens Stone Circle and barrow. I think there's also one near Stanton Moor, Derbyshire.

Just read this excellent novella by @dlgladwin.bsky.social - set in Eyam and Chatsworth during the 1666 Great Plague, it draws on history and folklore and has a brilliantly distinctive narrative voice @roadsongbooks.bsky.social

Eyam has an interesting history with an excellent museum focused on the plague, a road that was closed to MVs and opened to walking, wheeling and cycling after a land slip, cafes, and it goes without saying - public sheep roast…
