My instinct on this is that Americans don’t understand the relationship between the Brits and the BBC.

It’s a bit like having a sibling. You can complain about them, but when some else attacks them, you will defend them to the death.

Good to see more people finally on board with what all us furriners have been saying about the BBC for years - there is no perfect system, and for all its faults, the BBC is a wonderful thing.

Right, enough of James Watson - who's a senior academic you've met who's been an utter delight?

Can't help but notice the rodent/lagomorph theme here 🤔
Growing up were there any moments in movies that traumatized you? 😬

For me, it was this son of a bitch right here.

Forget the unions. Now is the time for people who care about higher education, arts and humanities to start a coordinated campaign to MPs and the public to educate them and influence policy. There are opportunities here for creative solutions (cf 5 College Consortium) to counter the threats.
I am hearing that @uniofnottingham.bsky.social is suspending (i.e shutting down) *all modern language courses* in 2026-27. One of the largest departments in the UK. A shocking short sighted move that damages regional and national prospects @britishacademy.bsky.social @hetanshah.bsky.social
