Emm raises $9M seed to create one of the world’s first ‘smart’ menstrual cups
Jenny Button first thought of Emm during the COVID lockdown. She was using an Ora ring and Whoop and getting insights about her body, but there wasn’t a device that could tell her data about one of the most important aspects — reproductive and menstrual health. “It seemed crazy to me, because these are things that every woman wants to be able to track and better understand,” she told TechCrunch.

This is a fair question. Roland is committed to pursuing sustainable inferences of AI, and in this case, everything is run on-device, so using Project LYDIA requires no pervasive connectivity to a data center.

Your device may include a hidden app linked to an Israeli company that collects your personal data without your knowledge or consent, a clear breach of your right to privacy.

How does this happen, and what can you do to minimise the intrusion?

It’s not a venting machine it a pneumatic tube device.

It’s a reference to putting your data in a tube that is sucked away to be safely stored.

this is a slide from a talk by @martin.kleppmann.com. the third point here is empowering in a that way server-authoritative architectures are not. that's what all the complexity buys you: true ownership of your software and data.

But Mike, I view apps on a screen on a device I own, in my own house, surely that means the entirety of the internet exists within my home and any data I put on it is as private and protected as if it was locked in a safe.

My dream about Additive computing is that you can combine all hardware available at home, run software and copy data across devices.

So, when you buy a new computer, this just adds to your own compute. It also means you can choose the design you prefer, e.g. if you prefer an old device.

That chart tells me they can't get the file system in BFU mode on stock andriod, which is good enough for 99% of people.

They can pull the normal data exposed in BFU mode but not anything encrypted by the keys stored in the Titan chip. So anything on the SIM, and basic device identifiers.
