What’s your sign?

Me: Being trans is like being a locomotive. When I was born, I was a diesel-powered Siemens Charger ALC-42 and very sad. But now I'm an electric-powered Siemens ACS-64 and much happier. HRT is the catenary that keeps me connected to my joy and euphoria.

The train will just stop, and the conductor will blame it on the catenary. This happens regularly.

…via the 0.25 mm catenary. Nine sections to make it transportable. Since 1960s on loan on display in museum in Stockholm, for first 40 years staff weren't allowed to touch derailed trains; Now museum owns it. Two trains based on commercial models added to the roster in the 2000s.

Freight rail companies: Electrification is impossible! We can’t run trains with overhead catenary!

*literally runs diesel locos on electrified Northeast Corridor*

**literally ran electric locos for decades before 1960’s in the US**

Me: You don’t want to, because profit margins. 🙄

There was more electrified rail using overhead catenary in the 1920’s, 30’s and 40’s than there is today, and freight ran just fine on it. The only way we even get it is to make freight rail companies “want” it: either they can “choose” to do it or we can nationalise all trackage. 😊

Do you know when the terminal catenary will be erected?

Network Rail successfully moved the new M6 Clifton bridge into position this morning. The 4000 tonne composite bridge, complete with ballast and catenary masts was moved into position over the M6 using SPMTs (self propelled modular transporters). #M6 #Clifton

I have to say, I love the image of the catenary being fouled because somebody decided to hang their futons on it! 😆

Caught that perfect moment when the sun aligns with the infrastructure. The textures and silhouettes during golden hour are unbeatable.

It is extremely fun and, for me, very accessible in the sense that I can just walk into any booth and figure out the capabilities of sundry systems I'm interested in - passenger information systems, catenary installation, track laying machines, open gangways for metro trains.

2025 kicked off with the release of California's State Rail Plan. Thanks to our advocacy, it calls for electrifying Metrolink and Capitol Corridor and 1500 miles of catenary around the state - and embraces service-led planning. 2/ www.youtube.com/watch?v=pe5E...

Cleaning out a computer and found the only cat meme/pun I've ever made. Feel like it needs to go on the internet somewhere, though I should probably post in some discord for engineers with a Gaudi fetish. (It is a catenary arch. In the words of Bojack Horseman, do you get it? do you get my joke?)

We'll likely see quasi electrifications of MBTA's Fairmount Line and Metra's Beverly Branch with BEMUs and terminal station catenary charging in the next couple years. Both could expand those pilots to other routes, perhaps even eventually pursue proper electrification.
Beyond that is...🤷‍♂️

According to an article titled "The Mystique of Electrification" (Trains Magazine, July 1970 www.trains.com/trn/magazine... sub req'd), the US never got past its peak of 3,100 rail miles (~5,000 rail kilometers).
In fact, after WWII, many electrified railways were ripped out!

I came across this post on thefactusproject Instagram back in March. They wrote: "Amelia Fletcher of Talulah Gosh, Heavenly, Marine Research, Tender Trap and The Catenary Wires. Working at music retailer, Our Price in 80s. Here’s the list of the indie chart from 1985 they put up in the shop." I should add they also wrote "Photo courtesy by Amelia Fletcher" so I hope neither Amelia nor thefactusproject mind me posting this*.

Amtrak’s own detailed explanation for the six incidents in December (in 10 days!) raises far more questions than it answers. Like, “what do you mean your catenary integrity inspections can’t spot potential structural failure in a gantry?!” — apple.news/AJu1IQy3qSva...
