Relatedly, this is why we need so much more storytelling about people working together in groups that are part of larger networks/movements.

So much TV, movies, books, etc are about One Hero Who Saves The Day, which is not how most things in real life work.
As daily goals, "stop fascism," "defeat evil," and "save the world" probably aren't going to get you anywhere, and might leave you feeling overwhelmed and helpless, but "work towards building something good" is always achievable, concrete, and useful.

... I am/was a Rurouni Kenshin fan. And full confession time, I was also one of those kids who learned how to read with the Harry Potter books. Yeah I get what you mean here, is people going "what those evil authors did to you" and meanwhile I go "dead of the author is not good enough"

Departments have had a fair amount of leeway to arrange 2-2 loads, or for lecturers something like 3-3, but provost, dean, etc. want to enforce 3-2 (4-4 for lecturers), which is on the books (somewhere?) as what we should officially teach. 3-2 puts me in a better position than many, many people...

It's weird watching things happen and knowing they're going to be in history books. I wonder what people will label this chapter of US history.

Timely post because I've got wind of more complaining about "choose not to warn. People are accusing authors of deliberately trying to trigger and/or not caring if they trigger people, and for goodness sake people you are NOT the main character. How do you cope with BOOKS? No trigger warnings there!

Went to the library and inside of a book I found this (see images below), a few of the other books in the religion section also had one inside.

This is the sort of thing people used to do before Reddit existed.

I think it’s kind of funny that the same people who scream bloody murder if there is no spoiler warning also want adaptations to follow the books or comics exactly. 🙄

He does definitely just want his name in the history books, and he's been shopping around for a political win for a while. Though he does take in a lot of suggestions from the people around him , but there can't tell him everything or he would just tell us all about it.

Serious question for you all:

Would any of you wanna form a bookclub with me?

I tend to read mainly as SCI-Fi/Fantasy and Romantasy books.

I would love more people to talk about books with this year.

Restrictions on hrt would inevitably affect cis people so would have a chance of being repealed at some point. Restricting binders will sit on the books for decades before anyone thinks to change it.

So, uh, anyone else notice CS Lewis was just a bit racist? In the later Narnia books? He clearly has some issue with middle Eastern people.....

SINNER: Electric cars.
NOAH: *chuckles* You not gonna buy one, big guy?
SINNER: Fuck no. They had the bakls to ask me if I wanted to look at a Tesla dumpster on wheels when I went this weekend to look at new trucks to trade mine. For one... I'd never fit in one. Second, I don't

If you claim to love libraries but also get a thrill from the idea of punishing people financially for the late return of books and other materials then your love of libraries is exclusionary and I will have no truck with it!

In fact you can truck right off!

I removed my books from Amazon/KU after they refused to respond to requests to remove Ask This Book.

Hopefully, if enough people jump ship we can get them to at the very least add a toggle so we can choose if we take part.

That's my biggest issue; they didnt ask for our consent just rolled it out.
