The emergency that had Gunnar the mostly German Shepherd whining through his nose at 1:12am? The one where I stumbled from bed and limped the full length of the house to open the door for him despite agonizing hip pain? Was it a mountain lion? A bear? A rat in the garden? Gentle reader, it was not.

So I am a former child prodigy. I try pretty hard not to apply the standards I met to children, or even other adults. But I will say I read 2-3 novels per night throughout middle school and continued to read 5-7 novels every week while enlisted and throughout my early marriage. Voracious reader.
At this point, our intro comp/first-year English course has been so heavily revised, it no longer includes a novel, or "extended reading" of any kind, no "specialized" or "historical" reading, mostly in-class assignments, no research essay...and we are still seeing a 40-50% rate of AI misconduct.

I’ve been tracking the price of a household purchase I want to get for Christmas. The going price was $449 with an accessory for $499. Today’s super sale price? Big deal? $449. $499 with the accessory. Literally the same exact price it has been for a month but with “sale!” on it.

You will not regret buying this book.
My book GHOST DAYS is a lushly illustrated love letter to Appalachian folklore, witchcraft, and pulpy paranormal adventure. It's got incredible @tiffanyturrill.bsky.social art, and a wandering witch I *love* writing.

On sale now for over 50% off! There's only 35 books left...

How to put this… any two people being shot ought to be a big fucking deal. But with the volume of people getting shot in America, it isn’t. Two deployed service members being shot in uniform should be news, but not unexpected? Two members of the NG deployed to DC to “quell unrest” being shot…

tech ceos rebranding existent machine learning technology as 'ai' in order to sell it to vcs because it's taking too long to make genuine substantive breakthroughs in the field is the polar opposite of progress, actually.

Today, after months of requests, I toured the Broadview ICE Processing Facility. I want to share what I saw.

The facility has no food vendor, no medical care, and detainees have to use toilets in the middle of shared cells. These are in no way suitable conditions to be holding anyone — period.

Y’all I’m 99% sure the spider I just found while moving furniture is a “false black widow” spider. But I was 75% sure it was dead before it started scuttling around so i don’t trust my estimated probabilities.

Getting ready to perform massive acts of home-makery this afternoon with my husband. He’s tackling dishes, carpet care, and motivating our son, along with dealing with a work phone issue. I’m about to make bread, lamb-beef gyro meatloaf, tzatziki sauce, possibly fresh pita, and do laundry.

Breaking news: everyone at MEPS is guilty of sedition.
The Democratic lawmakers said that the Trump administration “is pitting our uniformed military against American citizens. They called for service members to “refuse illegal orders” and “stand up for our laws.”

In response, Trump suggested the lawmakers should be put to death.
Trump Calls for Democrats to Be Put to Death for Accurately Describing Troops’ Constitutional Duties
Trump accused half a dozen Democratic lawmakers of sedition "punishable by DEATH" for calling on military members to uphold the Constitution.

Now imagine if the vote was on condemning institutionalized pedophilia. Hmm? Crickets chirping.
4 senior House Dems — Hakeem Jeffries, Katherine Clark, Pete Aguilar, & Ted Lieu — voted for a Republican-led resolution to “CONDEMN SOCIALISM,” a symbolic measure that passed the chamber on Wed. The vote comes as NYC mayor-elect Zohran Mamdani is set to meet with Pres. Donald Trump at the WH today.

His hair is a mess, he’s not wearing a tie, and his shirt isn’t buttoned. When he says “people dress up like they’re going to bed” what he means is “I’m upset women don’t dress up like they want to impress men any more and that makes me, the underdressed Sec Trans, personally sad in my pants.”
Trump's Transportation Secretary on how to improve air travel:

"People dress up like they're going to bed when they fly... We want to push people as we come into a really busy travel season, help people out, be in a good mood, dress up"

I remember when there was a discussion on Twitter about Shein's manufacturing practices and some apologists invented all sorts of fantastical machinery and technology to avoid facing the more horrifying truth. Reminds me of this comedian's joke.

Gosh if only I could extrapolate from that to a way the government could lower the risks for individuals by providing access…

Remember The Little Match Girl and how, alone and dying from cold, she burns all her remaining matches at one time to see her grandmother again for as long as possible? And then dies alone in the dark and cold? But her corpse is smiling because she died pretending to be warm and loved?
So if AI succeeds loads of people lose their jobs as they're replaced by AI, and if AI fails, loads of people lose their jobs as the economy crashes?
It’s amazing how this story has gone from 0 to 60 in UK press. There’s been no mainstream coverage to date but this morning the story is leading BBC News site & bulletins.

Watched The Babysitter on Netflix last night almost exclusively to have an excuse to watch the sequel later on this week. I do enjoy horror/comedy. It’s like shoving too much bubble gum in your mouth and then blowing a bubble so big it bursts on your face. You know what’s going to happen but when?
