A chough flying off into the top right of the frame. the head is in reasonable focus but the wings are blurred. Behind is grey sky a brilliant shot of a chough coming into land with wings spread, both red feet raised, ready to land and beak looking down. The only problem is it is completely out of focus, dammit! silhouette of a chough against a flat grey sky

Annoying #chronicillness keeps me from going out birding, so my bird photography is pretty much all “birds at feeder, taken from my Big Poofy Chair with my iPhone.”

Here is a chonky male Black-headed Grosbeak.

A male black-headed grosbeak sits on the left-hand perch of a tubular birdseed feeder. Appropriately, his head is black and his beak is massive, broad at the base and pointed at the tip, ideal for crunching seeds. The back of his neck and chest are orange, his lower belly is yellow. His wings are dark brown to black, spotted with white, and his tail is also dark brown with white blotches at the base. He has a sunflower seed in his beak and is looking at the camera With his head slightly turned to the left. The view of his delightful chonky body is slightly obscured by the shepherds crook pole that holds the feeder. The background shows the foliage of California live oak and black locust trees.

A Norther Mockingbird, taking off away from the camera - legs wings and bottom visible. Grey/brown bird with wings having dark at the outer edges and a light patch in the middle. My sensor isn't really that dirty - they are out of focus flies. Lens wide open, so sensor dust not usually an issue. Two Tree Swallows flying. I was focused on one perched, the other came by and they took off - the top edge of the crop is the edge of the frame. Good capture of the color though. White underparts, bright blue-green iridescent above. Never did get a good focus on this one, but I'm pretty sure it is a juvenile Black-crowned Night Heron flying over the water. The eye is the give away - red/yellow. Body is brown and streaking, not like the adults. This is a crop from the very edge of the frame, the Cliff Swallows left wing out of frame, bu the focus was spot on ;). Right winf seen edge on and face towards the camera, showing the chesnut chin and neck, blue cap and white band between the eyes. A new bird for me as far as I remember.

A Harrier, Northern maybe, although it looks quite light, out of focus flying over fields. The camera normally tracks better, but harriers obviously have some stealth technology. An out of focus picture of a bird behind tall grasses. Wings can just about be made out and it looks like it may be about to land. Water visible through the grass too, so that gives a clue about what kind of bird it might be.

I've lived in Maine 14 years and this is the first Mexican violetear hummingbird I've ever seen here--or anywhere else for that matter! #BadBirdPhotos 🪶🤓
