He often said, “Every artist needs an alter ego.” I, on the other hand, tried to pump every one of my styles into the same online profile. Doesn’t matter if it’s blogging, streaming, or whatever. Everything came under the heading “Stan Stewart”. That is — until last year. And then, Stanley G appeared. My alter ego was born. One mentor said to me, ‘Every artist needs an alter ego’ Click To Tweet ## Where We Are As my alter ego, Stanley G can play and say things that I could not. For example, “he” has just released this track which is a clear avoidance of hope. He’s saying that instead of hope, the best we can do is “Avoid Dread”. I’ll try not to fall into this philosophy of his. (I happen to like hope.) But in the meantime, listen to the track. AVOID DREAD? or seek hope? Click To Tweet ## Where We’re Going Other recent releases by Stanley G were each inspired by an ancient haiku. The first one came in Autumn and the haiku was by Mukai Kayori: Autumn wind... I am stringing a plain-wood bow This inspired the track “Ostinato and Improvisation”. Also known as “Autumn Wind”, of course. These fragile bowed string instruments are the perfect companion to this poem. Arts can inspire each other – this music was inspired by haikus… Click To Tweet ## And now… Stanley G The other haiku was inspired by a waterfall. And we all know how inspiring that is to “this” composer. "Fog clears away: the waterfall shows up bit by bit." ~ Natsume Sōseki This viola improvisation over a number of other bowed string instruments was a favorite of Stanley G’s. But listeners have not been as drawn to it.
