Astrophotographers now face the same dilemma when it comes to AI-assisted imaging. Philip Smith noticed this when he asked RepairitAI to clean up images of Tiangong and the International Space Station. While the result was amazing, AI also decided to add details that weren’t captured during imaging:

This is Sharpless 261, or Lower's Nebula in Orion. It was discovered by father and son amateur astrophotographers Harold and Charles Lower in 1939.

This is only around 6 hours of integration using SHO filters. 🔭

Alright, fellow astrophotographers. Let's see your snow fort observatories! Here's mine up here in snowy Massachusetts, USA. We got about 18 inches of snow last weekend and there's no thaw in the forecastable future.

I didn’t say we remove them. As astrophotographers we reject them. There is a difference. The technique has been around for 2 decades or more. Satellites are easier to deal with than light pollution.

NGC 55: A Galaxy of Nebulas: Can you see nebulas in other galaxies? Yes, some nebulas shine brightly enough—if you know how to look. Clouds of hydrogen and oxygen emit light at very specific colors, and by isolating them, astronomers and astrophotographers can reveal otherwise unnoticed structures.

Can you see nebulas in other galaxies? Yes, some nebulas shine brightly enough -- if you know how to look. Clouds of hydrogen and oxygen emit light at very specific colors, and by isolating them, astronomers and astrophotographers can reveal structures that would otherwise be too faint to notice.

I would like to post in the feeds because I am an astrophotographer and would like to share my passion with other astrophotographers. I am also a citizen scientist who collaborates with many NASA projects for citizen scientists, and I am also a contributor and member of the AAVSO.

Beautiful. So many formally obscure fainter objects are being revealed by dedicated Astrophotographers.

Haha, I just knew you’d be tickled by the “gear review” comment. 100% accurate. Astrophotographers would be all “So I was out getting imaging data for M42 (Takahashi Epsilon E-160ED w/ QHY MiniCAM 8 on a SkyWatcher EQ6-R Pro) when the UFO landed and aliens came out!”
