This cigar minnow stood out with its bright green scales. This is only the second time I've seen one! A surf clam shell with a bore hole from a moon snail. These voracious predators envelop their prey and drill into the shell, cutting the muscle that holds the clam shell shut and then devours the clam. Nature is so metal. Some images from an uneventful night dive at Fort Wetherill in Jamestown, Rhode Island in early October. The kingfish was the highlight and I captured it in less than 5 feet of water.

Boston in the distance from Tipling Rock in Sudbury, Massachusetts on Saturday. We left camp when it was still dark and reached the top about 15 minutes before sunrise. This was a little before sunrise, but the colors got more muted after.

A juvenile sea raven - I think this is the first I've ever seen! Buffalo trunkfish hovering above the kelp - so cute! Look at those pouty lips. A beautiful longfin squid in the water column. Each of those dots can change color rapidly! Tiny northern puffer in the water column

A short bigeye makes a fall appearance in the warm New England waters Hake are a fairly common find on night dives, but this one had a skeleton shrimp on its side (weird!) A tiny tropical butterflyfish in the water column A coronetfish visiting from warmer waters - I've never seen the stripes before!
