A hit & run driver injured 2 pedestrians (46/M, 51/F) who were crossing Georgia Ave/97 at the intersection with Wendy Ln, Aspen Hill, on Fri 12/22/23 7:17 pm.

Police (MCP33530024) found the pedestrians at fault: failure to yield ROW.

In April 2022, MDSHA refused to provide a safe crossing here.
In response to your request for a traffic signal at MD 97 (Georgia Avenue) and Wendy Lane, when considering the possibility of a traffic signal at the subject location we follow the guidelines set forth in the Manual on Uniform Traffic Control Devices. Please note- a signal installed under inappropriate conditions can increase crashes, increase traffic delays, contribute to congestion, increase impatient and aggressive driving behavior when it comes to beating the red light leading to increase in rear end collisions. Therefore, it is important to consider factors when installing a traffic signal to ensure ideal traffic spacing. Crash data history was also reviewed. Further, Wendy Lane is located too close to Aspen Hill Road to provide ideal traffic signal spacing. The signal spacing is important to maintain progression and reduce potentially unsafe queuing through adjacent intersections. Visited a castle under repair on Saturday. Historic Scotland took the chance to give us a history of scaffolding. 😂

For centuries such temporary supports have played an essential role in the constrution of many great buildings. Before tubular steel was widely adopted in the 1900s, scaffolding was made from long, slender trunks of pine or aspen. Vertical and diagonal poles were roped together with horizontal poles carrying platforms from which builders and painters could work. Once the job was done, the scaffolding was pulled apart and used again elsewhere. In some buildings you can still see square holes in the walls that once held the poles in place.

2. What do you do? That's a multi-part answer.
First, I run my own business - Second Nature Creative Interpretation and make interpretive signage and other media. I spend my days researching, writing, and illustrating panels that share stories about history, nature, and science. 2/

On home snow looking to make history, the Aspen High School Alpine ski teams both delivered in the biggest way Friday on the second and final day of the CHSAA Alpine state skiing championships at Aspen Highlands.
