The factory was in Salford not Manchester. Anyone with "Manchester in their blood" wouldn't confuse the two.

I like how this split color bowl turned out. Makes a great little base for dry floral arrangements, and the usual uses for a vessel that contains (dice, jewelry, coins, fossils, rocks, potpouri...)

i have so much (neighbor) maple for turning i thought i should try out some color treatments to mix it up

i dont like poly-stains.. but aniline dye ive messed with in the past and had on hand for some experiments; the results of which will be up in my shop later tonight 💜😘

Purple Tinted Maple Bowls are now available. An experiment with aniline wood dye and wood turning. I mixed a (water) dye base and some tinted tung oil finish and then applied it carefully to specific sections to achieve this look.

right, the colours are dyes - I think aniline dyes - and HC smoke is much, much, much thicker.

Did you know magenta took its name from an aniline dye patented in 1859 by the French chemist François-Emmanuel Verguin, who originally called it fuchsine? I didn't either.
Wikipedia tells me so. 💜

eventually pulled from the market due to its toxicity
fun fact — the reason it did work 🤒🤕 was because it was a prodrug, a precursor — the body converted it to acetaminophen (Paracetamol/Tylenol)
unfortunately aniline (toxic) ☠️ was a side-product metabolite

i cooked :3

added small excess acid, but it should be fine!
as long all of toxic aniline is like neutralized to salt, which ill also use later :3

plan for tommorow:

Aniline Hydrochloride (its also gonna be for later use, sooo its quite useful reagent :3 )

my guess is the "Prune" from the 1930 Color Dictionary, especially since it's being remembered in the 1920s after aniline dyes!

stupid and nitpicky things i dislike in period pieces including but not limited to
- shiftless corset wearing
- modern hair and eyebrows
- girl where are your hose
- preindustrial aniline dye colors
- you cannot tear a double stitched bodice seam as easily as you think
- perfect hair and makeup

I splurged on a pair of Mephistos several years ago. They still look great and feel great, and when they get a little wear they can be touched up because aniline dyed leather is made to last.

Jesus H. Christ - are they completely insane?

(Then again, I remember a book in the local public library (junior section) entitled "The Young Chemist" with all manner of nasty stuff in it: making aniline dyes in your kitchen, etching glass with hydrofluoric acid...)

Day Dress (Most likely silk or Combed Cotton)
American or European, 1860s

During the 1860s, the cage crinoline allowed women’s skirts to reach their apex in size, while advances in technology, such as the sewing machine and aniline dyes, changed the fashion landscape.

Watching Death By Lightning with the spouse and I'm boring the snot out of him by expounding ceaselessly on the inaccuracy of the muted colors.

This was the heyday of aniline dyes!

Karen Memery wants to know where all the mauve, royal blue, yellow, and peacock are.

Also methylene blue itself was used as a malaria treatment!

Also, I had forgotten that William Henry Perkins was a painter... and his experience with painting (even though he was only 18) was a major reason he recognized the importance of the aniline dye he accidentally synthesized.

JC: humans have 4 m3C methyltransferases, knockouts decrease global m3C levels, but what is their specificity?
Introduces HAC-seq, Hydrazine/Aniline Cleavage sequencing, which splits RNAs at m3C positions.

The relaxation of aniline after excitation at 267 and 200 nm (4.6 and 6.2 eV) in methanol solutions has been explored by fs time-resolved experiments in this #EHUikerketa.

Dress, 1865-68

silk dyed with aniline or arsenic, this dress would have been far brighter at the time.
