#WXPN'S
1/2 This news both closes the year and opens a new one: the album Mourners has landed at #4 on Raina Douris & WXPN’s list of the best albums in the world 🖤

Now that WXPN's annual listener-voted-on music countdown is over, I plan to go back to my very occasional posting (for those of you who follow me for other reasons and have been mystified by the volume of posts about cover songs this past week). 🙂

May I recommend listening to WXPN's The night Before on Christmas Eve. It will wrap up at Midnight on the Eve and usually includes Aretha's exquisite rendition of Silent Night. It's a perfect ending of a precious day.

Quoting Raina Douris' sister: "WXPN's Countdown is on...the dog can wait" 😁

Allowing this is a fascinating call. I agree with it, just it's giving me a delightful frisson of genre dissonance.

Ugh, forgot about WXPN's 885 [thing in a category] that's always in early December, and today's the last day. This year: cover songs!

#xpncountdown I'm gonna assume this is a typo, but I would love to think somehow a song originally from the Norman Conquest made it onto the list

My number 1 on my list - Annie Lennox’s cover of Bob Marley’s “Waiting in Vain” was just played - # on wxpn’s top 885 cover list. Much Too Soon! #WXPNcountdown

Love how the peculiarities of the cover songs prompt leads to an #xpncountdown block of a few of the most beloved songs in pop history sandwiching the Limp Bizkit "Faith." The kind of ordered chaos all radio countdowns should strive for.

FTR David Bowie should really be in first place right now on the most-played artists on #xpncountdown but it looks like the automated rankings don't count either "Little Drummer Boy" or "Dancing in the Street" towards his tally because they're duets.

Here is WXPN’s ENTIRE ASS
Sorry Brian, we don't have someone monitoring 24-7. Thanks for letting us know. The pros and cons of using AI are complicated and the 299 characters aren't anywhere near enough to have a thoughtful conversation about it. (1)

Am I allowed to sue @wxpnfm.bsky.social for whiplash? What about emotional distress for reminding me how the Phillies season ended?

I have to admit something embarrassing. I was looking at WXPN's host/staff top 10 cover song lists. I kept seeing Charles Bradley 'Changes' & I had to look up who the original was by and... d'oh! Like, I was never a huge Sabbath fan, but I know both versions! I just never put it together!🤦‍♀️

Alt: a girl is sitting on the floor holding a cardboard box . She puts the box over her head, perhaps out of shame. Perhaps she just likes the darkness. No one can know.
