How does it look from an End-Timer Gotta Grab The Resources and Build A Utopia for the Richest People to Survive Climate Change perspective?

My favourite first-watch films of 2025. Great year for enjoying freaks and weirdos on-screen.

Star Trek is a liberal vision of utopia because everyone in starfleet is evil but they conceive of themselves as doing good

I still feel there is a grander vision at work here (in terms of Trump, Miller et al. seeking to construct what they see as a White utopia). But Bouie reaches back, as he is wont to do, to examples in American history to buttress his assertions. I respect that.

Alright. I accept that. But what exactly do you mean by help? If the worst case scenario comes about then most countries of the world will be in such a bad economic shape they will struggle to survive on their own. The idea of investing into another country's rebuilding sounds like an utopia.

I just want to live in peace, paint miniatures, practice Muay Thai, and be with the people I love. If we ever reach that Star Trek Utopia I yearn for, I hope that society makes a point of never letting a sing self-serving, greedy, racist monster anywhere near the levers power.

Preferably society...

It’s very simple. If you’re a Dem and you don’t want to meet the moment and fight, that’s fine. Bury your head in the sand and pray that you emerge in a couple of years in a 1998 neoliberal utopia. But that also means you don’t get to stay in office and just do insider trading & feel important.
On a human level I understand being in denial about the crisis we're all living through, or the temptation to imagine you can wait it out. But these are delusions and anyone exhibiting them can't be in a position of leadership right now

Welcome to Republican Party utopia.

No accountability means endless escalating criminal behavior.

Not sure people realize how devastating Trump’s failure to acquire Greenland is for the tech Nazis and their network state plans.

There’s a reason Trump kept citing the Golden Dome project as an excuse to invade.

Huge win.

We're already planning on emigration given your 'Labour' party's plans wrt further removal of my rights, thanks, so you can enjoy your rightwing utopia without this untermenschen. My skills & money & human rights are valued elsewhere, fortunately. Whilst I'm here I'm voting for hope, not reform lite

Also, April 2025: as the Trump administration intensifies efforts to acquire Greenland from Denmark - or take it by force - some Silicon Valley tech investors are promoting the frozen island as a site for a so-called freedom city, a libertarian utopia with minimal corporate regulation

Feel like clarifying that China also commits genocide regularly and ruthlessly like we do. Not some magical utopia where humans don’t act like we all know humans do.

Planned economies can’t solve “humanity” but they are just better at allocating resources intentionally and efficiently.

Thanks a lot, MAGA voters. Only it's not only us Libs they plan on killing, it's you, too. The DJT administration hates the people of America. You (we) aren't rich enough to live in their Mar-a-Lagolike white supremacist Utopia.

Motherland: A Feminist History of Modern Russia, from Revolution to Autocracy
FINALIST FOR THE NATIONAL BOOK AWARDNAMED ONE OF THE 10 BEST BOOKS OF 2025 BY THE WASHINGTON POSTNAMED ONE OF THE 100 NOTABLE BOOKS OF 2025 BY THE NEW YORK TIMESA GUARDIAN BEST BOOK OF 2025 NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF FALL 2025 BY ELLEONE OF CHICAGO PUBLIC LIBRARY'S MUST-READ BOOKS OF 2025 Acclaimed journalist Julia Ioffe tells the story of modern Russia through the history of its women, from revolution to utopia to autocracy. In 1990, seven-year-old Julia Ioffe and her family fled the Soviet Union. Nearly twenty years later, Ioffe returned to Moscow—only to discover just how much Russian society had changed while she had been living in America. The Soviet women she had known growing up—doctors, engineers, scientists—seemed to have been replaced by women desperate to marry rich and become stay-at-home moms. How had Russia gone from portraying itself as the vanguard of world feminism to becoming a bastion of conservative Christian values? In Motherland, Ioffe turns modern Russian history on its head, telling it exclusively through the stories of its women. From her own physician great-grandmothers to Lenin’s lover, a feminist revolutionary; from the hundreds of thousands of Soviet girls who fought in World War II to the millions of single mothers who rebuilt and repopulated a devastated country; from the members of Pussy Riot to Yulia Navalnaya, the wife of opposition leader Alexey Navalny, Ioffe chronicles one of the most audacious social experiments in history and documents how it failed the very women it was meant to liberate—and how that failure paved the way for the revanche of Vladimir Putin.Part memoir, part journalistic exploration, part history, Motherland paints a portrait of modern Russia through the women who shaped it. With deep emotion, Ioffe reveals what it means to live through the cataclysms of revolution, war, idealism, and heartbreak—and how the story of Russia today is inextricably tied to the sacrifices of its women.
