This allows him to deflect any analogy because he knows so much more about the actual details of the given case. He always has an additional fact at his fingertips to falsify the comparison. This is an intellectual virtue turned into a vice. Although Tooze is called in the piece “the Crisis Whisperer,” it’s fair to ask to what extent his concepts have grasped the crisis. As I’ve written before, “polycrisis” seems like an avoidance of conceptualization altogether. Tooze, unlike the unlettered epigones of his position, admits the possible “usefulness” of the analogy. I will go one further: it’s actually predictive. Fascism doubters said Jan 6 was unlikely, then said it was unimportant, then said this regime was weak and would not press its most authoritarian designs, and could not imagine something like Minnesota. But for all its supposed fatuousness and self-dramatization, the holders of the fascism thesis have not been surprised by any of this: this is, more or less, what they expected. That’s why I think the fascism analogy is a progressive research program: the new facts it predicts are being born out in reality. And now I’m going to lay down the gauntlet a bit hard: how does Tooze’s analysis, for all its sophistication, match up to even the crudest versions of the fascism thesis?'

Concept art of my oc Matryona as a mechanic when she was somewhere in her early 30s. Its a void white background she's got a cigarette in her mouth, smudge of oil and grime all over her and her attire. She's a messy and busy worker. She's depicted mid-walking and while on her way to where she ought to be she's readjusting her thick scruffy yellow safety gloves (its also dirty with oil and grime just as much she is). To describe Matryona's face she's got a casual unassuming glance at something unimportant, small silver stud earrings, she sports this blue bandana wrap over her dark (its already tied in a ponytail) curly hair so it doesn't mess with her face much. Her signature flat moles on her, two near her temple, one on the apple of her right cheek just under her eye, another one lower that the on her right, and lastly that mole under the right side of her lip. You can't really notice her moles much under the grime I just wanted to describe it HAHAHA. Then there's her attire: a formerly white tank top, and cahnge-oil stained denims.

By comparison to the state of the world my little garden seems fairly unimportant but, I've just pulled the first beetroot and it's perfect 🫜
A freshly pulled and washed beetroot lying on a timber cutting board. It's smallish; the root is a deep reddish purple with the colour travelling up the stems and leaf veins. The leaves are deep green. The leaves will be used in a salad, I'll roast the root when it has some friends.

Honestly, it’s such an uplifting, funny, optimistic show! And Holly Hunter is absolutely amazing in it. How Captain Ake sits is unimportant (it’s how she does her job that matters), but it is a part of what makes her so delightful & refreshing. She’s already one of my favourite Trek captains!

I wonder if they're drawing a conclusion that popular support is unimportant and the existence of midterms is like a bone of democracy that's been thrown to the people. It is surreal that the state is murdering people and there is little available to politicians beyond saying "vote in midterms".

Taking notes isn’t a shit job- it’s very important -accuracy and neat hand writing count. It’s devaluing the jobs women traditionally do- stop. The military will teach you there are no UnImportant jobs. There are glamorous jobs but all are important. Teamwork makes the Dreamwork y’all.

One thing I will always remember about @tgracchus1781.bsky.social from back in the day is that he established that he was not going to let shit jobs like taking minutes be the sole province of women in the group and would jump to the front of the line to volunteer.
