I have only just learned of this excellent, totally spooky tradition from the Inuit in Nunatsiavut, on the day that settler Newfoundlanders call Old Christmas Day. Nalujuk Night, when creepy tatters-and-bones figures emerge from the eastern sea ice and chase children!

2026 marks 75 years of Municipalities Newfoundland and Labrador working to progress the municipal sector in Newfoundland and Labrador. Formed in 1951, MNL today represents and advocates for Newfoundland and Labrador's 274 municipalities, including the Inuit Community Governments of Nunatsiavut.

9/13 Inuit Nunangat is nearing complete climate strategy coverage, with regions from Inuvialuit to Nunatsiavut releasing their own adaptation plans.

The Nunatsiavut Government (NG), in partnership with the Royal Canadian Navy, is looking to commission a Nunatsiavut artist to create a piece of art that will be transferred to the Hull of the HMCS Margaret Brooke.

Dr. Ellen Snyder, a medical officer of health with NLHS, said a small number of connected cases have been found in some Nunatsiavut communities. She declined to get into specifics for privacy reasons, but said transmission had occurred over several months.
