The best ideas start with a napkin drawing (+ a pint)!

We’re celebrating 20 years of ocean science discovery + innovation—from our first real-time ocean monitoring portal in 2006 to observatories across the Pacific, Atlantic, + Arctic coasts of Canada & the Southern Ocean.

1/🌊 Like any good story, it began with mavericks.

Scientists at the University of Victoria asked a simple but revolutionary question:

🗨️Could we monitor the ever-changing ocean continuously & in real time, instead of relying on spot measurements from a research vessel?
