On this day in 1896, the Winnipeg Victorias defeated the Montreal Victorias 2-0 in a single-game Stanley Cup Challenge. They were the first non-Montreal based team to win the Stanley Cup. Winnipeg held the Cup until Dec. 30, 1896 and regained the Stanley Cup in 1901.
