#NetSpeak
an enlightening thing I've seen them talk about though is how they've trained their chatgpt to speak to them like one has it in full netspeak mode while another was like Obviously I made it a gyaru and it's just like yeah everyone wants a slave secretary with a totally malleable personality

Every now and then a trad pub magazine publishes a long, thoughtful article that isn't filled with nervous attempts at netspeak and I'm reminded of what we've all lost

they're literally just chatting with their friends, typos and shorthand and "netspeak" are literally just how many people communicate since the internet has existed
emailing in a semi-literate manner isn’t a sign of stupidity, it’s another form of rich asshole arrogance because you don’t think you owe anyone coherent thoughts

I’m so terminally online that I use netspeak in casual conversation

My coworkers are probably low key considering whether to stage an intervention

Netspeak (“lolz”), one of the other most blatant anachronisms

TS. Or is that not a netspeak abbreviation?

Style: More expressions of gratitude, feeling, and third-person plural drive SOVC generally. "Netspeak" (e.g. lol, haha, emoji) and a focus on the future are signals of stronger membership & belonging. Is this the case in your favorite communities?

*bones audibly creaking* "1337" used to be netspeak for "elite"

Reading the Iliad (as you do when in the Mediterranean, W.C. Bryant’s translation) and without checking I’m pretty sure Tolkien liberally took stylistic inspiration from it.

Also learned that spellings like ”cursèd” is from there, rather than netspeak: constant use of ”wingèd” etc.

so I speak with Dundonian (Dundee), slang (kinda ned like), Fife formality (one might say), US/UK TV, n netspeak (old n new, tho gave up on Reddit "mid" COVID)

also I type with younger gen-y/gen-z/α lowercase

easy

the battle between context switching n masking and staying real to my roots is real

This new species of sub-humans, internet trolls— can be traced directly to the Trump regime. Their “netspeak” consists of inflaming others, dragging them down, or goading people for the sole purpose of bringing anyone to their lowest and most undignified level. www.palmerreport.com/analysis/thi...
This is just embarrassing for JD Vance
JD Vance was born of the internet. It was the internet that hatched him, Twitter that gave birth to the living, walking, talking meme who currently occupies the VP slot. This new species of sub-humans...

I JUST REALIZED THAT BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL PREDATES STEINS;GATES. IT MUST BE REALLY EARLY 00'S SLANG/NETSPEAK, WHICH I BET IS PROBABLY FUN TO SEE.

It sounds like their complaints with the official localization have to do with consistency with other games in the series and also translator notes. To be honest, though, I really liked the translator notes. I enjoyed having context on the 2000s-era Japanese slang/netspeak they were actually using.

References in a dialect of netspeak that are only intelligible to people on one specific platform who have also attended this specific convention

rewatching GQux E6 and something I really like about both Gundam and Final Fantasy is the way that characters just read English and Japanese equally. Cloud Strife sees street signs in classical kanji and checks a text on his phone in netspeak. Nyaan wrote in English on her calendar n has JPN books

What is this weird netspeak? This is vaguely nostalgic of l33tspeak but feels weird. Its 2 tryhard to hip with teh kidz. Did/is people actually typin like this? The “u’ve” is new to me

imo its more 'cringe' to conform & have a netspeak in ur own private netspace emulating it girls/guys waiting 2 be the next niche celeb.
I'd rather talk to a person having a semblance of personality amongst the sea of cliche wannabes.
you're one of a kind gem bunny and ppl notice and luv u🐰🩷

My response to anti fanfic people is that the Divine Comedy is AU self-insert fanfic written in netspeak.

Is this a hacked account or does Grassley use netspeak?

Anime YouTubers have this (to me) infuriating habit of saying “the MC” instead of “Main Character.”

It’s spoken netspeak that I hate when typed and I loath when spoken.

I read the paper behind this newspaper article and it's hilarious (in the not so good way). A bit of a red flag when a study on digital linguistic practice published in 2024 contains a "netspeak variable".
