My theory for why Iori is such a boring dogshit empty loser character is that it's a case of Altria vs Arthur where Altria is an awful father and so Mordred grew up a punk who likes Arthur. Male Musashi is probably a bore in contrast to female Musashi, which is why Iori grew up an empty husk

Something I find interesting is throughout FGO it's clear Shimabara was a big, awful event even to the guys who did all the butchering of peasants there. It's not clear if Musashi was actually present for her world's Shimabara, but Yagyu and naturally Amakusa both speak of it as worse than Sengoku

Put more calmly, my beef with the SamRem collab is that nothing happens in it in the sense that the Master of Chaldea has no real reason to -be- in that story. He's not -doing- anything. You don't learn anything of interest about Chiemon or Shousetsu, Saber or Iori. Jeanne and Raikou barely matter

... the character designs for the new Patlabor look good, but the character designs for Gqux were stellar and look how that went. I don't want to be optimistic about mecha anime in the year 2026. It never, ever pays to believe good things are still possible.

Chiemon being a survivor of Shimabara and summoning Jeanne Alter is a very interesting idea. Iori Miyamoto meeting the alternate universe woman who shares an identity with his father is an awesome idea. It's a shame that the SamRem collab has done exactly nothing with any of this
