Happy birthday to James Tate--he would've been 82 today

"Horticulture is a groping in the dark into the obscure and unfamiliar, kneeling before a disinterested secret, slapping it, punching it like a Chinese puzzle, birdbrained, babbling gibberish, dig and destroy, pull out and apply salt, hoe and spray, before it spreads, burn roots, where not desired, with gloved hands, poisonous, the self-sacrifice of it, the self-love, into the interior, thunderclap, excruciating, through the nose, the earsplitting necrology of it, the withering, shriveling, the handy hose holder and Persian insect powder and smut fungi, the enemies of the iris, wireworms are worse than their parents, there is no way out, flowers as big as heads, pock-marked, disfigured, blinking insolently at me, the me who so loves to garden..." A 2025 necrology, with morals. If I'm qualified to find morals. If morals are a thing in 2025. I'd like to hear your opinion of a question I struggle with herein: did you under/overachieve, or is what you did definitionally what you were capable of doing? Maybe potential just just someone's opinion.

The article is called "Out With Woke". He specifically calls for sacrificing all marginalized communities upon the altar of the revered white male. Is that how desperate liberals have gotten for any sort of hollow "win"?

Preached in front of my brother. His first time seeing me!! His uncle (half siblings, so not my uncle) died overnight and was read in our necrology. Our priest blessed his mourning and brought his first tears. It was beautiful. ⚓️

This post *did* remind me to review all of the names I’m supposed to read out loud for my portion of the necrology, which is now telling me I know diction rules for too many languages and not sure if people use original language pronunciations or English-accented pronunciations of their names….

I'm curious if other churches have guidelines or limitations on names added to the necrology for All Saints/All Souls (don't at me liturgy police). Last year, congregants had maybe 12-15 names for it. This year is 60+

The short necrology is read during evensong on Sunday evening, with a whole candle lighting situation while the choir sings.

So I think there’s room for both kinds of things, you just have to plan them right.

We have two necrologies - those who died in the past year (by submission) and all who are buried in our memorial garden (which is actually required as part of the gift for said memorial garden). The long necrology is said in the garden at the end of the 10:30, +

BTW, if anyone doesn't understand what happened with those games: someone confused the original kiseki (奇跡), which means "miracle(s)," with kiseki (軌跡), meaning "traces/trajectories." Japanese has a lot of homophones. "Necrology" (鬼籍), literally the "Devil Register," is also kiseki. There are more!

A valid testimony doesn't make a solid rule. I found this piece lacking contextualisation and leading straight to over-simplifications about FPV roles, challenges but also successes.

Can you be any more of a bootlicker? Saint Kirk was a full on fascist, an ardent gun advocate, a spiteful, hateful morron whose "job" was radicalizing people on the internet.

He deserves a two line necrology, nothing more: "guy shot dead in utah. suspect at large." Done.
