"Jesuits are well prepared for martyrdom. Survival, on the other hand, could be an intractable problem. Sometimes... it is easier to die than to live." oh sure but when I say this to my friends they do the big sad wet eyes at me

I'll read Parker's missive after I say what I always say: People engage with this shit searching for a perfect hero and simply can't accept the Alex Prettis of the US simply do not give a fucking goddamn about being perfect heros to glom onto and rally around, and martyrdom is incidental.
Today's newsletter: there's a new video from 11 days before Alex Pretti was shot to death. Some people refuse to believe it's real. I wrote about why that's going to be a problem moving forward: www.readtpa.com/p/thats-ai-i...

I hate this deranged self-martyrdom people engage in online

Guess what, you being hopeless and mentally useless is what the side you're opposing wants

And for what, so people on social media can give you likes? They'll turn on you in a second, they don't give a FUCK about you

Strong smell, cheap and easy to acquire, technically acid so somebody can claim it's an acid attack but not damaging enough to warrant whatever overreaction they wanted (martyrdom, I am guessing..).

On the anniversary of Hind Rajab's martyrdom, we remember that childhood in Gaza is bombed before it even grows up, and that a young name has become a witness to an unforgettable crime. 💔

Furthermore, death and dying is not something Khamenei and the minority of Shia fascists who rule Iran are afraid of. Martyrdom is the very essence of Shia.

“Really it’s the christianization of society, Rossus. Big strong senators praising weakness and martyrdom and all that. Go meek and your future’s bleak, right?”

With them, I did push back hard, and all it earned me was scorn. Maybe contempt.

Catholics would call it “white martyrdom,” as opposed to the deadly kind. Then again, white Catholics in America went for Trump by 14 percentage points.

After decades of tolerating that shit, I’m done.

The final moment of the martyrdom of a boy who was protesting alongside his father. There is not even a moment of fear or despair.

these days she's a Light-fueled monstrous terror with her scythe, moving almost animalistically through her enemies, especially when the Light takes control and the Forgiven Martyrdom, as she's been named, loses most sense of enemy and ally, leaving absolute carnage behind

Prominent Christians in Constantine's time waited to be baptized until their deathbeds lest they commit a "major"sin that couldn't be forgiven of those already baptized. Others felt anyone who did anything to avoid martyrdom were apostates had no valid subsequent ministry.

Thanks. Being in Asheville NC, we're expecting it here soon. We made it through a disaster a year ago. We're a bit beaten down but tough. Martyrdom inspires others to risk their lives in moments of peril. Some of us have already. I believe this will be a battle hymn. Sadly many more will die.

They know the power of martyrdom. Look at how they tried to leverage Kirk's death. And they know these are actual heroes that Americans can relate to. They must be shitting themselves.

There are indications that the Acts of the Apostles was significantly edited before being published. The received text ends up being about Paul. But the original ending was likely the martyrdom of Jacob (James) in 62 CE.
