In 1872, the steamer Lac La Belle went down in a storm in Lake Michigan. In Feb. of 2026, Paul Ehorn announced he had found it after 150 years. The story of the Lac La Belle, available wherever you get your podcasts.

I should add also Vasa, the Swedish warship to my list of the unique and and real historical ships. I'm sure everyone knows her history: sank 1628, salvaged 1956, currently on display at the Vasa Museum in Stockholm.

Winter 1875: Steam Tug VIM tows a fishing schooner loaded with bait, Gloucester Harbor. I cleaned this one up a bit for an article I'm working on. Back then, Gloucester Harbor would freeze up and tugs would have to act as ice breakers.

The Historical Galley is the world's oldest known galley with its original wooden hull built at the end of the 16th century. This 40-m. vessel is not a war galley. She is displayed at the Besiktas Naval Museum Command in Istanbul.

The prehistoric Hjortspring Boat is northern Europe’s oldest wooden vessel. It is on display at the National Museum of Denmark.

Thomas Tew was one of the most well-known Red Sea pirates active in the 1690s. He was killed in a failed attack on a Mughal ship, possibly being disembowelled by a cannon ball.
