On this day exactly 50 years ago, 29 men perished when the SS Edmund Fitzgerald, "The Mighty Fitz," sank in Lake Superior during a terrible November gale. I am re-releasimg Ep. 33 of Shipwrecks and Sea Dogs to commemorate this milestone.

There has been lots of buzz lately about the 50th anniversary of the Edmund Fitzgerald's sinking. I'll be re-running my episode about the Fitz on Nov 10, but also I'll be interviewing John U. Bacon about his new book "Gales of November" for an early December episode release.

New episode! On Sept 9, 1929, the semi-whaleback cargo ship SS Andaste was lost on Lake Michigan in a sudden storm, with all 25 on board. Only 16 bodies and assorted debris from the ship were ever found.
