I used to be ambivalent about the Epstein files, because I was (and remain now) skeptical that any prosecutions with result from their release. But Rs' (and it's almost exclusively Rs) determination to keep them hidden since January 20 tells me all I need to know about what's in them.

I know this is pedantic, but Kim Davis was not "jailed for refusing to issue same-sex marriage licenses." She was jailed for contempt of court because she refused to follow a court order (she had stopped issuing all marriage licenses). NYT makes it sound like the Woke Police broke down her door.

It’s grimly amusing because the same people who are voiding their bowels today over Mamdani and the horrible things he will supposedly do as mayor are exactly the same ones who hand-wave away Trump‘s egregious authoritarianism and disdain for the law because “that’s what people voted for.“

i genuinely cannot stand actual european elites condescendingly explaining american public opinion to americans. reminds me of when some british lady IRL tried to tell me she understood southerners better than i ever could, a southerner who lives in the south.
The educated liberal big city US folks outraged at Trump's renovation of Lincoln bathroom really need to scroll some Facebook of their less established relatives and friends to see what kind of aesthetic resonates with Trump's target audience.
