I will also say that I think it's Fucked Up that various American Xtians call their talks with Mormons "interfaith" relations and not "ecumenical"

Absolutely. There's no way in hell evangelicals consider Mormons "brothers in Christ" - it's a coalition of convenience, and the evangelicals will throw the rest of the crew (Mormons, Catholics, etc) under the bus at the first possible opportunity

The progressive Mormons who keep futility believing that if they stay they can make changes from within are going to have to admit eventually that the brethren keep giving very clear signals that they have fully embraced far right conservatism. It’s foundational to the doctrine and not going away.

The Mormons are overwhelmingly conservative for sure, but there’s a steady undercurrent of distrust of how this Administration treats religion. Mike Lee is too stupid to see it, but I know that a lot of Mormons feel vulnerable about it.

I don’t think in all circles Catholics are accepted like you say. They may be being used for their votes, but mostly I think Catholics & Mormons are not included fully in social circles. As things fall apart the true feelings of the Evangelicals may be revealed.
