#Lycopodiopsida is a class of vascular plants also known as lycopsids,[1] lycopods, or #lycophytes. Members of the class are also called clubmosses, firmosses, spikemosses and quillworts. They have dichotomously branching

SA-induced stomatal closure via ROS→NO→K+ is unique to seed plants and is absent in ferns/lycophytes with only ROS production - Zhang et al.

not really a fan of the final image but here's a progress screenshot of a 2023 rhynie chert drawing. I promise user 'trigonotarbida' does sometimes draw trigonotarbids.

The #lycophytes, when broadly circumscribed, are a group of vascular plants that include the clubmosses. They are sometimes placed in a division Lycopodiophyta or Lycophyta or in a subdivision Lycopodiophytina. They are one of the oldest lineages of extant (living) vascular plants; the

Lycopodium clavatum, common names include Stag's-horn clubmoss, running clubmoss, or ground pine.

These lycophytes take 8 years to germinate and another 25 years to mature. That is why plucking these over temporary holiday decorations is abhorrent. #lycopod #clubmoss #plantsky

More of my beloved Selaginella wallacei, I love finding it no matter where I am. Lycophytes represent a fascinating part of the evolutionary history of plants.

I rarely post plant pics – but lycophytes get special treatment. Looks like Lycopodium clavatum.

A great example of how comparative genomics across the full range of vascular plant lineages can be used as a catalyst for gene discovery!
Exciting new single cell datasets for gymnosperms, ferns and lycophytes!
The scale of this study is really amazing!

this was also a point in time where newer plants called Lycophytes appeared, Pleuromeia was the most abundant due to the environmental instability following the Great Dying, the most catastrophic extinction level event that wiped out 90% of all living things. the animals that live here are mostly-

Lycophytes used to be massive trees. Now you step on them hiking and don’t even notice.

Lycophytes (club mosses, spike mosses, quillworts) were once the tallest plants on Earth. They don’t have seeds but do have roots and water tubes. Now they mostly grow close to the ground.#AncientPlants

Did tiktok increase the character limit on comments recently to something mysteriously long…? Because it’s suddenly allowing the swamp to nerd. No one seems to be talking about it. Is it a glitch?

If you have any questions about lycophytes for the swamp on tiktok, now is the time.
