William Nicholson, ‘Miss Jekyll’s Gardening Boots’ (1920). Painted as a gift for Edwin Lutyens. One of the pictures I'm looking forward to seeing at the exhibition of Nicholson's work at Pallant House. www.tate.org.uk/art/artworks...

Was it because the architect was a knight? (Sir Edwin Lutyens)
'Official' castle? I'm intrigued about definitions and their value at the best of times, and I have only had one cup of tea this morning so this is not yet one of those.

Looking forward to the citation here.
Did you know that Castle Drogo was the last *official* castle to be built in England?

It was built on Dartmoor between 1911 and 1932, making it the most modern castle in England.

Meaulte Military Cemetery a few days ago. It's rather unusual cemetery, just south of Albert.
@CWGC
say it was designed by Sir Edwin Lutyens, but it was in fact designed by Capt. Artur James Scott HUTTON(*). A mix of red headstones including some Indian troops at the beginning of Row A >cont>

The original design for Liverpool's Metropolitan Cathedral by Lutyens. Costs spiralled and only the crypt and treasury were built. A magnificent and recently promoted to Grade I listing cathedral designed by Gibberd was consecrated in 1967.

If you told me the roof leaked I'd blame Lutyens, but I suspect.a little earlier?
