One-month-old twins could be the youngest drug-resistant TB patients in Mumbai | Mumbai News – The Times of India
MUMBAI: A Kandivli couple's joy at having twins after IVF treatment was tinged with sadness as their boys were diagnosed with drug-resistant tuberculosis (TB) during Diwali when they were barely a month old.Their case points to a worrisome pattern of drug-resistant TB in infants. The state-run JJ Hospital's NICU, where the twins—possibly the youngest in the state—have been admitted since October 29, has seen multiple such cases. The World Health Organisation's Global TB Report released last week highlighted a 21% drop in the incidence of TB in India between 2015 and 2024, but it's clear that alarming concerns remain."One of the boys was diagnosed when he was barely a few weeks old," recalled infectious diseases specialist Dr Tanu Singhal, who suspected TB when he was first taken with pneumonia to Kokilaben Ambani Hospital.
