#INNSWeek
💡 Applying stakeholder engagement techniques and defining different tools and methods to tackle #IAS.

In May, as part of #INNSweek, @coventrycawr.bsky.social gathered experts from various fields to conceptualise ways of collecting data on #Bioinvasions 👽
Stakeholders dealing with invasive species across Coventry & Warwickshire came together in Ryton on the 21st May for the 1st meeting of OneSTOP project’s Living Lab. Participants were introduced to an air eDNA sampler, car/boat mounted camera systems & AI connected light traps.

🌱 As #InvasiveSpeciesWeek draws to a close, we wanted to share pictures taken from the same spot, the first in 2020 before rhododendron clearance, the second in 2024 afterwards. See how the complex topography of the land is revealed, plus native trees which had disappeared from view.

No apologies for banging on about the problem of invasive Rhododendron ponticum this #INNSWeek. It's a serious threat to our native flora. Here's how you can help:
1. Talk to your local garden centre about it
2. Inform others &/or share our posts
3. Volunteer to remove it from your community 1/2

A fantastic end to #INNSWeek with two days of removing non-native species from one of our precious chalk streams! 🌱💦💪

Two truckloads of Himalayan Balsam, Cotoneaster, Leylandii, Cherry laurel, Crocosmia, Spanish bluebells, & Box-leaved honeysuckle removed from the Lewes Winterbourne!

Top effort 👏

Invasive Species Week (this week) is an annual event in the UK to raise awareness of invasive non-native species and how everyone can help prevent their spread @inadehn.bsky.social @onestop-project.eu #INNSWeek
Did you know invasive non-native species (INNS) are a major driver of #biodiversityloss & cost the EU >€12 billion annually?

Our Shoresearch volunteers recorded the Brush Clawed Shore Crab, Hemigrapsus takanoi, at Pett Level in April.

Originating from Eastern Asia, this species has previously been recorded around the Thames Estuary and Kent coast; we believe this may be the first record in Sussex.
