I'm okay with decriminalisation, except for cocaine

I live & work under decriminalisation & I have a prescription for the 🍃

There are others platforms, it’s not 2020 any more.

This is OF underestimating the hand that feeds them yet again

Thatcher and other Tories who had supported decriminalisation in the 1960s ended up voting for Section 28 because they felt they could support it in narrow 'council money shouldn't be wasted on this stuff' terms. They also just wanted the Tory religious wing to shut up and leave them alone.

Bit sad because I genuinely liked Speakman, who despite being a Lib was the only senior politician in NSW to make any steps towards drug decriminalisation (before getting shot down by Cabinet) www.abc.net.au/news/2022-06...

I was homeless. Tackling rough sleeping requires a system overhaul – decriminalisation is just the start

Ireland’s drug policy isn’t just failing individuals, it’s failing families.

The first sitting of the Drugs Committee (25/09/25) exposed the hidden harm, stigma, and neglect families face every day.

Families on the Frontline: What the First Sitting of the Drugs Committee Reveals About Ireland’s Broken System
On 25 September, the Joint Committee on Drugs Use held its first public sitting in Leinster House. The topic? Family supports and the ripple effect of addiction.

I swear to god, I was always for decriminalisation but twenty years as a massage therapy have made me *vociferously* so.

Because they rarely know what TO expect, and that is a huge, HUGE source of anxiety and trepidation for so, so many people. And I hate that, and it would help so much if we unmuddied those waters by making the lines explicit which we *cannot do* without decriminalisation.

uk always happy stealing the most evil ideas alive from the continent but when it's nationalised public services, decriminalisation, rent controls, disarmament, etc, it has never heard of such a wild fringe idea in its life

The “protect women and girls” crew, led by Rowling, are of course making a huge fuss about the de facto decriminalisation of rape.

Aren’t they? Hello?

Seems they only care about rape when they can accuse trans people of doing it. Odd that.

make prisons less abusive plus
- make prisons more actively rehabilitative + improve support for prisoners in e.g. finding legitimate jobs/housing after release
- noncustodial sentences for a wider range of offences
- decriminalisation of e.g. sex work, drugs
- improve overall material conditions

I'm beyond surprise at this Government's regressive, far right policies and intent to harm vulnerable people - in this case, survivors of DV and their kids.

I remember, it agreed only the most restrictive "decriminalisation" of abortion possible, but crowed as if it was some groundbreaking act. 😟
Another stunning Labour policy win, now domestic abuse victims are going to end up too scared to escape on top of the trauma caused by abuse, and children could be potentially returned to the custody of abusive parents. Slow clap.

Portugal vs USA shows why decriminalisation is great & legalisation is bad for hard drugs. Opioids were legally given by doctors in US & caused a huge crisis. Portugal kept them illegal but gave users treatment rather than punished them. Though soft drugs seem safer to legalise

Here's the Meta reply looking at The Netherlands.
The tolerant laws make it a lower risk conduit for trafficking elsewhere.
Despite decriminalisation the lower penalties still attract those wanting to supply cheaper.
Bit like buying from a shoplifter instead of from the shop.

I would argue that decriminalisation is a net benefit to the economy. Far cheaper to treat addicts than imprison them and deal with the knock on social costs of that. Plus the health benefits of untainted and properly dosed actives.

"decriminalisation" is a grey area between legal and otherwise. simple answer is: still not legal, but has no "criminal" penalties.

personal drug possession is another good example. still not legal; you won't go to jail though.

it certainly won't be a prosecution, but it could be civil, etc.

Just think, how much better off would we be without England?

Free university tuition, free childcare, free NHS prescriptions, no hospital parking fees, protection of public NHS, Scottish Child Payment, ended Right to Buy for council homes, decriminalisation approach to drugs, and I ran out of space
