the "Coalition" (CINO?) continues to deny there is a problem, and claim they have a "climate plan" which is unique in the world, but they can't tell you about it... we just need to trust them. it doesn't involve limiting emissions though.

The best thing that can be said about the Coalition’s internal brawl over whether to abandon its support for reaching net zero emissions by 2050 is that it has some honesty in it. Not much honesty, but if you look closely you may see some light breaking through.
The federal Liberals and Nationals have never supported the idea of reaching net zero by 2050. Some individual MPs have, but not the parties. We know this because they have not backed a policy to help meet it since Scott Morrison adopted the target in 2021 to try to deflect rising pressure at home and abroad. Continue reading...

Bullying, racism and inappropriate sexual advances also reported
Facing abuse, bullying, racism and even inappropriate sexual advances, the plight of Australia’s coaches has shocked even the researchers behind the first major national survey into positive sporting behaviours.
More than one in six coaches have directly experienced verbal abuse in the past 12 months, and two in five have witnessed it, according to the first annual results from the Sport Integrity Australia (SIA) Positive Behaviours in Sport Study, and parents were responsible almost half the time (47%). If only Remembrance Day served to remind people how futile war is, one wouldn’t mind the wreath laying, but it makes no difference. Those with a blood lust quite happily continue to order the spilling of the blood of millions. 🤮

i'm not sure whether to laugh hysterically or cry uncontrollably. this guy, ostensibly a doctor, claims to not understand how insurance works, and that somehow it is a scam because... some people don't get sick and subsequently require medical care.
it has to be an utterly partisan lie. repugnant.

My wife and I pay for life insurance even though we have never died. I pay for fire insurance even though my house has never burned down. That's not because we want to throw money at insurance companies. It's because THAT'S HOW INSURANCE WORKS.

there's a lotta rich people who don't want to see Woodside fail.

It's just been confirmed that Monash University is dropping Woodside as a partner because they don't align with their sustainable values. This is an incredible win for @stopwoodsidemonash.bsky.social who have run a dedicated grass roots campaign for years.

Batteries are coming to Europe. Earlier this year Europe’s largest battery storage site went live at Blackhillock, Scotland.
The facility has a capacity of 300MW/600MWh.
Much larger batteries are under development: A huge 1 GW / 4 GWh system is being constructed in Jänschwalde, Germany.

The campaign group emailed supporters on Tuesday afternoon urging them to flood the inboxes of Liberal MPs with a generic anti-net zero message in the hours leading up to the crunch talks. Continue reading...

remarkable. this is what can happen if you simply want loads of power, but don't have a dogmatic attachment to generating power using fossil fuels.
