We had a memorial at Tullamarine Primary School
no similar memorial for WW2 - paternal grandfather was wounded in action... on australian soil!
shows how traumatising the first war was. yeah, for that generation, 11/11 was a very somber day. military that attended on the day were there to pay respects only.
the survivors all wore their medals.

If only Remembrance Day served to remind people how futile war is, one wouldn’t mind the wreath laying, but it makes no difference. Those with a blood lust quite happily continue to order the spilling of the blood of millions. 🤮

sadly, that was precisely what it was originally about. when i was a kid we still had a lot of WW1 survivors living in town. it was a proper memorial to all of their friends that died in the meat grinder. somber is not a sufficiently strong word.
