#D/deaf
along with not sharing images with 0 or bad alt text, i also don't share videos that have no captions.

idk if other ppl are that strict, but i am. i dont want d/Deaf and HOH ppl to be left out from accessing any videos i share :3 #VTuber

I cat-sat for a capital-d Deaf cat once, and he was hilarious. His sister would hop gracefully down from the couch when I walked in, and he would THUMP down because he couldn't hear how loud he was being.

This woman also told us she was deaf and would often talk about preferring to turn off her cochlear implant. I once asked her whether she was Deaf or deaf, and she said, "I guess both, it doesn't really matter."

Do D/deaf people tend to say this? I always got the impression it was really important.
She's targeted numerous other people, been thrown out of a pregnancy server, and other folks had been suspicious about the story not adding up.

Since the options had been

A) My friend is paralysed,
B) My friend is dead, or
C) This person is not my friend and is lying,

it's the least worst one.

Tone-deaf, willfully ignorant and moronic FBI Director Patel gifts 3-D printed handguns to New Zealand police as part of a commemorative display. There's no way he didn't know what he was doing. In Trumpland, this dangerous idiocy is considered "funny mischief".

I think it would be really positive to see bespoke assistive tech: transcription tools that work for folks with dyslexia might be diff to ones that work for ppl with ADHD. Different D/deaf people may have different requirements, depending on many factors. Think that is prob specialist research.

(For the record my kids aren’t Deaf but their school has a D&HoH program & the kids learn some ASL in class. It’s great.)

captioning ur work is super important ❤️🖤

My realtime reaction to seeing that comment. Like I said, accessibility rules!

The fact that we all have a phone in our hands & immediate access to info-good & bad-will be the end of D&RoL

Simply because AI can make things so believable, no one will know if what they see is real or fake & convincing them of the reality of how the scams work will fall on blind eyes & deaf ears

what additionally sucks about social media censoring posts with language that advertisers dont approve of is that ppl will censor their captions, even when they're clearly saying a word.

y'all, pls remember that captions are first and foremost an accessibility tool for d/Deaf and HOH ppl.
October 28, 2025 at 3:37 AM
if youre going to censor a word in the captions, pls actually censor the word in the audio, too. otherwise, your captions are inaccurate and create a disparity in experience between d/Deaf and HOH ppl and everyone else.

idk, i think about this so often when i see inaccurate captions. makes me sad

So much racism, holy shit, and just a throwaway about how it deletes the source audio, leaving only the (often flawed) transcript is particularly concerning for D/deaf patients.
arstechnica.com/ai/2024/10/h...

This is funny: one way to tell that openAI scraped YouTube, is that its Whisper transcription is biased toward transcribing inaudible or garbled text to "drop a comment in the section below" or "please like subscribe and share" and such
Hospitals adopt error-prone AI transcription tools despite warnings
OpenAI’s Whisper tool may add fake text to medical transcripts, investigation finds.

Sign languages are distinct languages—BSL for example has completely a different grammatical structure to English. Translating to text therefore would be translating to some d/Deaf people’s second language rather than their first.
October 23, 2025 at 8:58 AM
In MN my senior year of HS they couldn't afford enough interpreters so all us D/deaf HOH kids had to take the same math & English. But it wasn't credited so I went from IB English with an interpreter to summer school with none
i was a kid with a disability who grew up in the great blue state of illinois and then went to high school in another blue state of minnesota — the same one that is fetishized for education funding

relying on the blue state idea is complete trash, kids with disabilities are fucked over everywhere

Forget about protesting. Say one word about white Christians being the only race or religion to vote for Trump as a majority and suddenly every white liberal on Bluesky is deaf and blind.

White Christians voted R every election since LBJ (D) passed civil rights? Crickets

Can't even face reality

It is not a coincidence she had an all black female string section out front, ended the song w/ a section of Billy Holiday's "Strange Fruit" & in case anyone had doubts, referenced Nina Simone's "Mississipi G-d Dam" on her keyboard

One would have to essentially be blind and deaf to miss the point!

Fun fact: If you know ASL, pay attention to Trump’s finger spelling when he speaks. It’s a code. But to who? Is Trump sending a coded message to deaf people? What does D-L-L-B mean?!
October 7, 2025 at 5:08 PM
"this Deaf girl can play the drums!" isn't for abled people to gawk at -- it's for other d/Deaf folks to see and go "oh shit, so I CAN do that if i want to"

Did you know that American Sign Language, the sign language used most often by d/Deaf and hard of hearing people in the United States, is its own completely separate language from spoken English?!
