#Copyedit
Okay, I made all my final changes to the ROSES & STONE copyedit, so now I just have to write the dedication and acknowledgments and I am D-U-N!

I'm on a roll with books that provoke book-envy. This book by #RobertChapman I didn't read until after the final copyedit of UberTherapy. Probably a mercy because its a mind expanding read about #neurodiversity.

one thing they don't warn you about working at a magazine is you have to copyedit reviews of films that are barely out (or aren't out at all) and they WILL contain spoilers.

I end up doing a lot of fact-checking when I copyedit, because my clients for shorter-form work (blogs, white papers, online training courses) often don’t have another step between me and publication.

But that means I’m checking some things based on vibes alone, which is suboptimal for everyone.

The NYT feature noted that the press pushed the pub up by 3 weeks (so she would not compete with Cheryl Hines). That's not a ton of time, but maybe they skipped a copyedit or three?

I’m maybe two-thirds through the ROSES & STONE copyedit now, and despite being a mess worrying about this book, it’s pretty good, actually! Good job, Past Me. <3

这种两行之内的涉及事实的错误…做copyedit的到底是人还是AI我都不想估了…

Last week I completed a full copyedit for a major non-fiction publisher. This week, when I didn't have capacity for work, I was able to recommend two other editors for the writer to approach. Maybe it doesn't sound like much, but to me, as a shy introvert, it's huge. (3/4) #AmEditing #freelance

Maybe he had dyslexia but why are you hypothesizing?
He also had spellcheck, gobs of $ to hire people to copyedit or dictate to, & a never ending swarm of apologists who wouldn’t mind the pedo content they were improving.

He just didn’t give a fuck how he came off. Power, not smarts, will do that

Book's done. Goes to copyedit now. Out of my hands.

There's something in there to tick off just about anyone - at least if you rely on bad principles, bad politics, and bad history to get you through.

For everyone else: American resistance has a way, and that way has a history. This book is it.

I work for a nonprofit, am involved in nonprofit grantwriting, and copyedit our donor reports.

It's not solely a matter of audience numbers, it's about telling the right story to the right people to get them to understand why the work you do matters and why it's important they help it continue.

Just completed my largest copyedit for CoG to date - over 1 million words! Hope players enjoy it

While researching my current column, I had trouble finding something PM Carney said in a speech in either Factiva or Google, so I tried asking ChatGPT-5 to search for it. This was its internal response.

It hallucinates in basic searches. It can't write truth. It can't copyedit. What is it good for?

2/2 PS: I finished writing & describing the visuals for the book in early 2024, or I'd have used that chryon in a panel in the framing or disinformation chapters (sneak peek 👇).

Back end process of graphic novels is lengthy, but stay tuned for pre-order links from @23rdstbooks.bsky.social!

Extraordinary camaraderie and generosity in my inbox this week--coconuts, ostrich eggs, tantalizing offers to write cool articles, grad students sent by their advisors to chat over projects, new chapter to copyedit, really the works.

I'm not a litigator but if you get that call, I'll fetch coffee and copyedit and whatever the fuck else needs doing.

I'm glad I don't see this nearly as often as other word crimes like "an historic" or "copyedit"
The more I see people using "casted" instead of "cast" the more I realize that I am a grumpy old fart who only wants to see the language evolve in my preferred directions, nevertheless I will happily judge you for it if I catch you doing it, look, my dude, the accepted past tense is shorter okay
