One of the more interesting moves as of recent...

Just outside Carnforth, Lancashire this morning, photo of flood water taken from the 555 bus. New home, anyone?

I love it , too (and was born near Carnforth where the train scenes were filmed so it has an extre resonance for me) I just can’t abide cultural appropriation articles like this , which essentially says me and my mates like this vintage film so let’s say it’s having a ‘moment’; based on what ???

🧵 I headed up over Hutton Roof to Burton-in-Kendal and back through Carnforth and Bolton-le-Sands. I made it back to Burton and Carnforth just before dark which was ideal and got back about 6:30pm. Not a bad ride see i didn't leave Lancaster until 1pm #cycling #Cumbria #Lancashire #LuneValley

OMG 🤬

A6 Carnforth traffic lights🚦at 4pm 😱

AVOID

Pulled into Truckhaven to find a back route to avoid it but not sure there is a back route without avoiding M6.

As it's nearly dark & raining I don't think we'll make it to the beach.

But I got milk so may just pull in somewhere & brew up.

Once owned by UK comedian Jim Bowen, Arkholme for Kirkby Lonsdale railway station served the village of Arkholme in Lancashire, England.

It is situated on what is now the Leeds–Morecambe line between the current Wennington and Carnforth stations.

Furness Railway 20 at the Greatest Gathering.

From the Furness Railway Trust, the oldest operational standard gauge steam locomotive in the country, Furness Railway Number 20. This locomotive was built by Sharp Stewart & Co., Manchester in 1863.

So what *actually* has been achieved by removing motorway regulations and the hard shoulder?

Long overdue maintenance, but other than to slap houses along it there was no reason for losing the blue signs. You still can't cycle or walk along here legally.

NH still haven't touched the signs on M6.
October 14, 2025 at 11:08 PM
It's alright when it's basically the M6 for 99% of the stretch and you're driving through all of Cumbria and North Lancs, rarely see any traffic once past Carnforth!
October 14, 2025 at 6:19 AM
Apparently the locomotive (the newly-overhauled Duke of Gloucester) shat the bed in protest and had to be left at Carnforth.

The British distribution of the neophyte Narrow-leaved Ragwort, Senecio inaequidens has exploded over the past 25-years or so. Here in one of it's favoured habitats, a railway platform.

Today I’ve had a bit of a day out with no plan…

Started with walk from Arnside to Silverdale. Then headed to Carnforth and onto the S&C!

Today was about trying to rediscover the fun of travelling by train!

Absolutely fantastic to see & hear 71000 The Duke out yesterday.
Shame she was failed at Carnforth due to her valve gear.

Can’t believe some people moaning about it.

There’s going to be teething issues after 13 years out
