#COVID#CERB
The Canada Child Benefit and CERB during COVID had a huge, positive impact on my family’s life (we already had cheap childcare in Manitoba).

However, I didn’t love his actual “style”, on a performance level - it was like a sanctimonious “cool” teacher.

It's what finished Justin Trudeau.I think,in future times,he'll be remembered for his accomplishments. Esply how he got Canada thru Covid, his CERB payments which were instrumental in helping Canadians weather the ensuing economic storm. But he took his eyes off the housing file. And it cost him.Dearly

CERB saved my family during Covid, we would have been in financial trouble. After Covid, he, like so many others, had to pay some of it back, not because he abused the system, but the government made mistakes in how many payments were made. That wasn't stealing, it was mismanagement.

Nancy NAILED it🏆

FYI: current Conservative Party is NOT same party as pre-Harper. THAT Cons party got its a$$ kicked down to 2 seats after Harper lost. They amalgamated it, Reform Party &Alberta Separatist Party to form Reform Alliance (CRAP-seriously). Shady name chg later: Conservative (CPC)🤬

CERB helped Canadians during COVID-19 — but not the most vulnerable

In the story it mentioned that poverty rates fell during Covid when the government provided CERB benefits.

So, we know that UBI would be a boon to Canadians that need it most.

Are you in the USA? In Canada during the height of COVID, the temporary federal CERB was $2k CDN per month, which I think is roughly the same level.

Just keep in mind what shape we'd be in right now if PP had been in charge of covid. He was not in favour of CERB relief for people. We'd have even more homeless. We wouldn't have the recovery we have going into this tariff war. I'm sure Carney will do whatever he can with what we're dealing with.

...consider one-person businesses "businesses" when push comes to shove. the covid "CERB" benefit getting clawed back from self-employed people really highlighted that, meanwhile companies like the one that employed me at the time were getting "small business bailouts"

Let's not forget that PMJT had similar numbers plus great jobs numbers, paid down some deficit, lowered the ret. age, reduced mid. class tax rate, effected CERB, kept number of Covid deaths lowest in G7, and introduced thx to Mr. Singh, pharmacare, dental care and subsidized daycare.

The ones praising him have no idea, nor any interest in the struggles of PWD. The ones ALWAYS LEFT BEHIND & ALWAYS MADE TO WAIT!!
Imagine if CERB recipients were told to wait 5+ years b4 they got help during covid? It would have been hell on earth!
September 22, 2025 at 10:22 PM
Yep. Trudeau fiddled around the edges with lukewarm economic ideas probably due to the minority government situation.—can’t take a big risk like Carney is. It wasn’t possible. But action on Covid saved us and CERB —will it be a precursor to UBI?
September 4, 2025 at 2:08 AM
I have a friend who was a designer at an engineering firm who got laid off during covid. He took the time to get really good at backcountry skiing thanks to CERB and rejoined the labour force when the jobs came back.
September 3, 2025 at 9:30 PM
People on CERB were underemployed and happy and productive (just not economically). COVID was a weird time but that part was great.
September 3, 2025 at 12:45 PM
Interesting. I have positive feelings about UBI because of observing the CERB program in Canada during COVID, which (anecdotally, for many people I know) kept huge numbers of service industry and arts workers who were suddenly without work able to still pay rent and buy food.

Taxpayers’ ombudsperson François Boileau says his office is nearing the record-high level of complaints it received during the COVID-19 pandemic, when Canadians were scrambling to receive CERB and other emergency benefits.

Funny how Doug Ford blasted the CERB and CEBA federal loan programs during Covid lockdowns and now he’s doing the exact same thing….remember, it’s a loan not a gift.

#immediate support needed to prevent this shelters are crowded, covid hot spots that kill many #CERB helped the rich, teens and students but not us too many disabled facing violence, sunburns, freezing homelessness adds lasting mental stress and insecurity it costs more to keep this cycle going
August 7, 2025 at 2:45 PM
We didn't during covid because of CERB, let's be honest though. We dumped so much money into the economy.

We simply can't keep doing that, or it'll be the 90s again. So 🤷 best we can do is diversify and pray.
August 4, 2025 at 4:14 AM
Is a similar study being done to explore consequences of CERB and other programs in Canada? Long covid is debilitating.
August 3, 2025 at 3:36 PM
Singh helped us get dental, pharma, and CERB during covid. Canadian voters are beyond retarded and have collective amnesia. You wanna talk retirement? Look no further than PeePee and his full pension at 31YO, endless govt handouts while doing literary nothing for his former riding. SMH. 🤦‍♂️
