Bourbon Waves a White Flag Charlie Angus Dec 29 2025 In every war, there are some battles that are more symbolic than others. Few products are as symbolic to the American brand as Kentucky bourbon. That is why the recent decision to shut down Jim Beam's flagship operation in 2026 has drawn significant attention to the impact of Canada's consumer boycott. Suntory Holdings, the owner of Jim Beam, blamed a "glut" in the market, a changing youth demographic, and the need to make enhancements at the site. The fact is, this so-called glut means they can't sell their product. The industry produced 55 million fewer gallons this year than last year. And at the heart of the problem is one brutal fact: the United States has lost 85% of its export market in a single year. This is the power of the Canadian boycott. We are now one full year in the economic war with the United States. Trump made it clear he would use the trade war to economically weaken our nation. The talking heads assumed that Canada would fold. That didn't happened. Canada has come through 2025 with surprising stability. MAGA, on the other hand, has suffered some staggering losses. Bourbon maker Jim Beam halts production at main distillery for a year Since the boycott started, seven American whiskey distillers have declared bankruptcy: Luca Mariano distillery in Danville, Garrard County Distilling, Westward Distillery, Montana Distillery, Devil's River Distillery, Old Black Button Distillery, and Kentucky Owl. When Kentucky Owl went bankrupt in October, they attempted to put up barrels of whiskey to help pay down their debts. This was rejected by the court. Judge Everett said that testimony from market experts "really brought home to the court the dismal state of the barrel market." Among the insights: it would be "very challenging" to sell this inventory without a "considerable discount." There are 1,500 jobs on the line due to the Jim Beam closure. The owners have no one to blame but themselves. Suntory Holdings invested heavily in republicans for the Senate and the House in the 2020 election. Over Christmas, four Canadian provinces, Nova Scotia, Manitoba, Prince Edward Island, and British Columbia took American booze that had been sitting in their warehouses and sold it off, donating the money to charity. Once that stock is gone, no new American product will be purchased. At the same time, the market has shown a massive shift as Canadians embrace new product lines both domestically and internationally. The shelves are changing and so are buying habits. Meanwhile, Trump and his ambassador, Pete Hoekstra, continue to insult Canadians. The bourbon market is dead. It was killed in year one of the economic war between the United States and Canada. As a symbolic defeat for MAGA, this is a major loss. Year two of the economic war is about to begin. Trump and Vance are paid or coerced by Putin to disrupt our peace. Not smart. Offer them NATO membership and send tank divisions to all borders with Russia.

Brandon Blades Canada is one of the largest countries on Earth, with a population of just 40 million people sitting on some of the most valuable assets on the planet. Fresh water. Critical minerals. Oil and gas. Timber. Vast Arctic territory and shipping routes. That's not opinion, that's geography and economics. And yet some people still think sovereignty is something that just... exists on its own. It doesn't. In the modern world, countries don't conquer with tanks first. They use economics, influence, leverage, and long term strategy. China has spent decades expanding its global footprint through foreign investment, supply chains, and infrastructure. Canada's own security agencies have repeatedly warned about foreign interference and strategic economic influence. That's not fear mongering, that's official testimony. Russia has made the Arctic a core strategic priority. Canada's north is not symbolic, it's strategic. If you can't monitor it, invest in it, and defend it, you don't truly control it. That's why Arctic sovereignty keeps showing up in defence planning. The United States doesn't need to invade Canada, our economies are already deeply intertwined. Any country that relies too heavily on one partner risks losing leverage. That's basic geopolitics. This is the world as it actually exists, not the bumper sticker version. Enter Dr. Mark Carney, an economist with global credibility, experience at the highest financial institutions in the world, and real relationships with decision makers across Europe, the U.S., and beyond. What matters isn't slogans. What matters is leverage. Carney understands something too many people don't: • trade is power • economics is security • alliances protect sovereignty That's why Canada is: • diversifying trade beyond the U.S. • deepening ties with Europe • strengthening Arctic and defence cooperation • positioning itself inside major global economic and security frameworks This isn't ideology. It's strategy. People who only focus on domestic culture wars and shout slogans are missing the entire chessboard. While they argue about vibes, serious countries are making long term moves. Sovereignty isn't defended by yelling louder. It's defended by competence, credibility, and connections. If you don't understand that, you're not being patriotic, you're being confidently uninformed. And here's the part that really exposes the nypocrisy. The loudest people insisting Ukraine doesn't deserve our help are some of the luckiest people on Earth, living in a country that has never seen war on its soil in their lifetime, protected by oceans, allies, and geography they didn't earn. They wake up in peace. They complain in peace. They protest in peace. They live worry free because other people, in other countries, are paying the price to keep authoritarianism contained. Ukrainians aren't asking for luxury. They're asking for what we take for granted every single day: • safety • sovereignty • the right to raise their kids without missiles overhead They are people like you and me, workers, parents, farmers, tradespeople, who just want peace and a future that isn't decided by force. Pretending they "don't deserve help" isn't realism. It's moral amnesia. We didn't get peace because we're special. We got it because generations before us understood that what happens over there eventually matters over here. We got it because generations before us understood that what happens over there eventually matters over here. Ignoring that doesn't make you tough or practical. It just means you forgot how lucky you are. And in a world like this, Canada can't afford that anymore.

The American people deserve to know the details and the legal justification when their military blows up things in foreign countries.
