Halo Week, Day 4: Finlay Ice Cream
———-
I tried to make a fun logo for this ice cream company that never had a logo made for it, only mentioned in Halo: Envoy by Tobias Buckell.

Nascence by Tobias Buckell is a collection of "failed" early stories with commentary by the author about what they taught him, which might be the sort of thing.

Oh no, I loved her acting. As someone with the last name "Buckell" I've always made jokes about pronouncing it like Hyacinth from Keeping Up Appearances
Dame Patricia Routledge has passed away. 😭💔

An AMAZING actress. I always thought of her as the Lucille Ball of Britain due to her display of comedic timing & physical comedy on "Keeping Up Appearances" as Hyacinth Bucket (IT'S PRONOUNCED BOU-QUET).

PBS introduced me to her.

Rest in Power.💐💐💐💐💐💐💐

I think you're a welcome addition to a tradition stretching back at least as far as Tobias Buckell.

First Strike. Contact Harvest is also really good. Envoy deserves an honorable mention, I miss Gray Team and hope they work with Buckell for another story about them someday.

Today, my science fiction students are learning about The Golden Age by reading Clarke's "The Star" and Asimov's "The Last Question."

We'll only be in this period for a very short moment, and then we're off to Lem's Solaris, followed by the New Wave, Octavia Butler, Tobias Buckell, Masamune Shirow.

We're going more international for my upcoming SF course.

The Big Book of Science Fiction edited by the VanderMeers remains the center text.

Novels include:

Solaris by Lem
The Membranes by Chi
Ragamuffin by Buckell
Ghost in the Shell by Masamune
Dawn by Butler

Whew, what a ride! Highly recommend to readers curious about what speculative fiction can do. A swift, fierce, and explosively creative dive into a world shaped by anti-literacy.

The only Halo story you should read is Dirt by Tobias Buckell because it's the only story to even HAVE gay people, and lesbians at that

I didn't listen to my audiobook book while I was off visiting so it took the whole 21-day loan time to finish it.

Zen & the Art of Starship Maintenance & Other Stories by Tobias S Buckell, narrated by William DeMeritt, is a lovely collection of space stories.

You know how some folks say the "trouble" with cyclists in High Park started when the city removed speed bumps for the Pan Am games?
Problem is there never were speed bumps in the main loop in High Park.
