You don’t hear a peep from all those defenders of the faith about how Christian Palestinians are being mistreated, threatened, and killed by Israeli settlers, aided by the government.
On Tuesday Alice Kisiya was able, for the first time since 2019, to set foot on her family’s land in the Christian village of al-Makhrour after an Israeli court ruling eventually forced Israeli settlers to leave the land and dismantle an illegal outpost.

(also possibly I talked to the only kids in the world who don't know Pig Latin, but in every case they didn't even know what I was referring to)

Possibly this is just that mass media finally displaced a lot of the transmission of kid-culture, but actually in my experience a decent amount of it (e.g. jokes, songs, superstitions, who-will-you-marry games) persists. So maybe a better guess is you don't need code-language if you can text?

Kinda interesting: so I have talked to several kids under 12 from different parts of the US, and none of them were familiar with Pig-Latin. Which is a bit of a bummer since there's evidence it goes back to the 16th century or earlier. In general, there's almost no "kid-cant" familiarity.

Massive long shot but is there anyone on here who lives in/near Cardiff, has a drone and would be willing to help me find my cat today? She got out at some point yesterday whilst we were away and we spotted her on a nearby roof this morning but she’s now disappeared. Please share

NYT provides no evidence here, probably because the claim is flatly untrue. See eg recent Pew data, or many posts on the subject from @gelliottmorris.com this year

I like your wording better than mine lol.

But yeah. You could argue love, compassion, etc. are more beneficial to human survival than almost anything else. Love is why we're still here, and the proof of that is that we still love.
"survival of the fittest" social darwinism guys tend to be the biggest misinterpreters of his work too. They see "best fit" as a measure of raw strength or intellect instead of what works well in an environment. If things like love weren't "best fit" we wouldn't long for it or share it for everyone

Really I just think we should always be skeptical of "survival of the fittest" bro types who love to fantasize a brutal past. But we know it can't have been that because we have love, justice, morality. Those aren't new, soft things. They're as evolved as teeth.

Morality is so interesting. Nature doesn't care about it so much. But things in nature—namely, us—are intelligent enough that morality has been beneficial to survival. We've survived, and we still have it. You don't keep things that aren't useful, you know? We didn't keep tails. We kept morality.
