why are people acting as if the original Animal Farm novella was an actual classic by merit? It's a classic for the same reason you're made to read 1984 in high school. It's anticommunist propaganda to teach children they should be happy with technocracy because true democracy may be flawed.

the craziest thing is that it doesn't even look like anticommunist propaganda! it's just a funny talking animal movie for kids populated by celebrity voice actors! everything *actually* adapted from animal farm feels wholly incongruous, like bits of nutritious salad swimming in a sea of cotton candy

There's a direct line from Unit 731 to some of the stuff we did in Korea, and that's before even getting into the unimaginable anticommunist violence we institutionalized and empowered. We killed at least 20% of the population. The DPRK is like that for a reason.

The increased anti-communist attitude in the nation was reflected in CIO head Philip Murray, who was a strong anticommunist. John Lewis had always tolerated the communists because he knew how well they could serve the larger cause, but Murray was distinctly uncomfortable with them.
